I hope that the B1G won’t let them play non

Earlier I watched a video on why Notre Dame would never join the Big Ten. Early in the 20th Century ND attempted to join the Big Ten 4 times. Four times and each time the anti-Catholic basis caused the Big Ten to reject ND. The way the rejections were worded made it clear the Big Ten was...

    Dec 7th (84 Years)

While there were many indications of Japan preparing for war, most agencies believed the Philippines would be the target. As to how the IJN task group got close to Hawaii no big mystery. They sailed from northern Japan and stayed in the North Pacific (which had very little traffic and) south...

    Dec 7th (84 Years)

A couple of thoughts: Gordon Prange author of "At Dawn we Slept" was a professor at Pitt. All but 2 of the Battleships sunk or damaged on 7 Dec. were back in the fight by 1944. This attack presented a major problem to FDR. On 8 Dec he asked and got Congress to declare war on Japan, but we...

Veterans-are you having issues with VA appointments?

No problems with VA appointments. In fact the VA has been very accommodating. Had two appointments, one in May and another in June with two different doctors. So no problem here.

June 4, 1942, the Miracle at Midway

I agree with HarrisburgDave "Shattered Sword" is a excellent account of the battle. Shattered Sword by Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully lists data I have seen no where else. On another note Japan had one hope (a slim one) to win the war. Japan needed a short war. Japan needed the US to...

Q for Pirates fans: Who is the greatest Pirates player ever?

One note "The inaugural Hall of Fame election results were announced in the media on Feb. 2, 1936, and featured Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner as the Class of 1936." Being in the first class of Hall of Fame inductees is a point in Wagner's favor.

OT: Athletes you knew while at PSU and considered friends...

Not a friend but met Mike Reed at a bar one night. He was very friendly and shared his opinion on various topics. We talked football not music. I remember him as one great guy and someone I will always look up to.

OT: Waffle House the Roman Colosseum of the South [embedded video]

Recently I read "Waffle Street" written by a guy who lost his job as a financial analysist and took a job at Waffle House because it was easier to work there than comply by the rules to collect unemployment. A couple of points from the book Waffle House employees the most ex-cons of any...

    Pirates Can Shelton:<<<SIAP.

Major League Baseball needs to adopt relegation. Relegation is used in English Soccer to move teams down and then Promotion is used to move a team up to replace the one moved down. Without this rule Nutting will continue to field minor league talent allowing him to collect the most money...

    Penn State University Seal

Both PSU and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania use this seal. The ship and the plow and the wheat are to symbolize the commence, industry and agriculture of the state. PSU was founded to support the business and agriculture in the Commonwealth. This is why we have B&I and Ag members of the...

The biggest snub in Sports History?

I agree with everything razpsu said "Psu would have won. It was the big ten media and coaches that voted for Nebraska. They were pissed that psu came in their 2nd year and went undefeated, first time in big ten in 25 years and the first team ever to go 12-0" I would add that we humiliated one...

Are you concerned that you may be priced out of attending games in person?

Another factor is my age. I am 76 now and as I get older, I am looking at the weather and the physical effort to get to a game. A cold rain is the worst. I go to most home games, but the games in late Oct. and in Nov. tend to be bad weather games. My age and the price have me looking to give...

Poll: How do you spend your time on a flight?

I keep looking at the gages and instruments in front of me while talking on the radio. I also keep moving this thing that looks like a steering wheel in front of me and moving this other thing in the middle of the consol. Sorry, but as a pilot I was thinking on how I spent a lot of time in...
