Technically yes but bands make so little from royalties in the streaming era that's it's really the only way to make money.

The Hobbit trilogy is terrible. Just a cash-grab. As others have said, the tone of the Hobbit is very different from the LOTR books. They made "Lord of the Rings: The Hobbit: More Everything!"
