Again, it wasn’t about Franklin, it’s about the selective memory regarding Paterno. Should I list every season Joe had and the games he lost to teams not ranked in the top 5??? Because there were a lot of them.
Did you duck when the point went over your head? Comparing the two is apples to oranges….those games you’re bringing up, how would Joe’s record have been if he played one or two of those games every year?
Of course he wasn’t worse than Franklin and no one is saying he was. The problem is the selective memory of some about the greatness of Joe’s record against top teams. Yes, he won some big games but he also lost a lot of big games. And he played some tough schedules but he didn’t have the top...
I watched enough PSU football in the last 55 years to have a pretty good idea this would be the case. He had a losing record in his career against top 10 teams, so playing every year against a top three team would result in more losses.
Depends on how the rest of the season played out. A loss to Temple could keep you out of the playoffs whereas a loss to OSU (especially a close one) won’t hurt you at all.
Their bowl games in three of their undefeated seasons were against Kansas, Missouri, and a 13th ranked LSU…not exactly a juggernaut. If they had to play one of the top three teams in the country every year I don’t think he would have had as many undefeated seasons.
Been a PSU fan for 55 years and my father was a PSU fan as well. And they played none of those teams in 68, 69 or 73 other than Pitt and they were only ranked once and that was #20. Selective memory can be a curse.
