Location made an impact on both games as well. Varina deserved to win both, but the same could be said in both situations if both games were in Suffolk and the Bulldogs won.
I am curious as to the numbers though and curious at what KF has to to to host at this point in the season.
And to fight back from a 14-0 hole, Smith return the opening kick and the punt! KF took the lead 21-17 at one point. This is a good football team and resilient. 14-0 on the first two special teams plays!! That's generally when Smith feasts because of their reputation, especially in local games...
Special teams and turnovers!!
Gotta play a complete game of football to beat the best!
Disappointed this group of seniors couldn't get that second W vs Smith. Competing annually with Smith means you are Competing with one of Virginia's best programs. Certainly the king of the 757 hill...
Haven't seen any of Smith, just scores and you can't take to much away from that, but they're not rolling through everybody as they usually do.
King's Fork wants this game more. I guarantee that.
100%!! Even young Smith is still Smith!! That '17 team and Artis AND Cam'ron Kelly!!
That heavy package killed KF past year too.
Get there early!! Gonna suck getting through the gate and I'm willing to bet it'll be a similar turnout to '17. Standing room only!! 🤣🤣
They've outscored they're opponents 245-41.
Edit, sorry typo. They gave up 20 to Great Bridge but put up 70.
This includes Western Branch, Deep Creek, Indian River.
Here's the deal. KF head coach was DC at Smith 4 years ago. Was also on staff at KF when they beat Smith in '17.
These seniors we're in the 7th grade in '17. Senior QB was the ball boy. KJ Boyd is the most underrated kid in the state. Top kid in the state in track too. Sophomore running back...
Don't remember how it shook out numbers wise.
SouthEastern District has 3 Class 6 teams and 3 class 5.
Varina played 3 class 5 schools. Somehow ended up with more points.
Varina's lone regular season loss being to Class 4 PH. KF lone loss being to Smith.
Frustrating that game was even in Richmond. KF had a game lost because of COVID. That's why they didn't have the points to host. Think it's a different game in Suffolk.
Crazy the undefeated boys basketball team had to travel to Richmond as well. Gotta think that outcome may have been different...
Kings Fork will certainly have a say about that.
Never a shortage of athletes at the Fork and they look like they could be bigger on the line than they were last year.
They only lost 4 games since the new coach has been there - 2 to Nansemond River during the 'COVID Bubble', and then Smith...
Backups are pretty tough too now. 13 is the most they've given up this year though, within the SED. Assuming they kept the penalties in check and didn't help NR there, that's not bad when you compare it to the rest of the district. Which is very impressive. Especially since NR lost to Hickory...
Game was very equal until the flags came out. 18 first half penalties for KF. 5 for Smith who has struggled just as much with penalties this year.
Every time KF had a big play a flag was thrown.
Of course less penalties in the second half. Didn't look like KF was playing any different than...
