    Volleyball Team

I'd not heard of this event. Presumably each conference is represented by what's regarded as its two best teams. NU may not be chopped liver but its squad would receive few if any votes for that level at this time. It'll be greatiwhen that happens in future "challenges."

POLL: Do you want to see Nebraska get their first-ever NCAA win?

I can speak only to lower levels in which I officiated for many years. Rules only specify that no MORE than five players per team can play at any time; in fact fewer than five are allowable by rule except to start the game. As a standard practice, however, someone on the crew should be...

    NCAA tourney open thread

I didn't see this on TV but heard a later radio clip of Coach Sendak's post mortem. He even implied that ignoring his request was intentional on the official's part. That's very likely unwarranted. I never called college ball but reffed a good many high school games in which crowd noise could...

    Ex-Cat as Head Coach

Haven't seen mention on this or earlier board, and in fact I tardily realized the head coach of a Div I women's program is a former Wildcat from the Carmody years. Here's a link: https://hcuhuskies.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/coaches/drew-long/1230 He's had a pretty tough first year...

    Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Minnesota

Yes and no question, it was called from the sideline. TV showed Collins give a hands-down "safe" sign, clearly ordering no foul as the Gophers attacked. That's a decision he probably would like to have back.

    Fun player comparison

You started a fine thread, Cappy.

    NU Baseball

Saw yesterday's season-opening double-header vs Rice. (Played two due to expected Saturday storm in area.) Quite a difference between the games; first saw balls flying out of the park, while the nightcap was mostly pitchers' duel. In the 2nd, Weaver looked impressive on the mound, providing...

    Fitz to Michigan State

To CatManTrue: don't know if your meeting is in the Houston area where I live, but I hope your Texas meeting has been a pleasant and productive one.

We Did Come to Play School!

Some very good comments on this thread, in my opinion. We don't have to agree with all of them, but for some reason this most resembled sitting in a circle of intelligent folks with strong viewpoints who still respect each other. This old guy thanks you.

    On a lighter note

Not a typo. Headhunter consistently spells decent as descent. (One of his endearing qualities. :))

Bajakian was hired away from MSU (Fitz) after 5 weeks to join the Browns. He was getting paid $375K there! šŸ˜‚

I too doubt that Fitz is too happy with this development. Not a good look in any business for an important new hire to depart in a few weeks. Speculating here, but one wonders if Bajakian was beginning to feel burnout with duties that are integral to college coaching but mostly don't apply to...

If you attended the Cats-Huskies game ...

I'm interested in what was apparently an honoring of hoops alumni. A pre-game ceremony, perhaps? I had to watch the first half at a sports bar where no BTN audio was available. Brief video showed a line of former players oncourt, with a lingering shot of Eschmeyer. What struck me, though...

    Great in-depth article on Martinelli

Agreed that the article has excellent analysis. Nick's work is well described and illustrated. He's put in so much effort to improve through his NU years, and one can only be in awe over what he's achieved. It's not disparagement of him to say, however, that I have doubts about his NBA...

Will WBB win another game this season?

100% agree. Can't locate the quote now, but am pretty sure John Wooden in retirement claimed to enjoy watching the women's game more than men's. He knew something about the game, we'd all agree. I see a few games each season of a local college women's team. As of this week they had SIX...

    Academics and Grad Transfers

I once took a degree from University of Denver, and today received an email from its athletics department, trumpeting its 96% Graduation Success Rate for all sports. Impressive. Probably NU is in much the same neighborhood of percentage, but I assume it's based on undergraduate degrees. One...
