    Sheppard's Defense

This discussion supports my belief about the problem with the commonly used defensive metrics. The Defensive Rating stat uses a complex formula that includes defensive rebounds, blocks, and steals, as well as how the team as a whole does with the player in the game. Similarly, Defensive Box...

    Sheppard's Defense

Yup. One of my pet peeves last year was Cason Wallace's team defense. He was a fantastic on-ball defender, but if you watched closely you saw he was rarely in the right place defensively when off-ball. And it seems like this is the rule, not the exception, when it comes to high-level incoming...

“I’m not sure why he isn’t playing.”

Has it not occurred to anyone on this board that Thiero isn't playing because they're considering a medical redshirt this season? I don't think it's a coincidence that he's played 10 of 31 scheduled games - if you play over 1/3 of games (i.e., 11 games), you can't get a medical redshirt. As...

Mitchell chokes in every close game

Tre Mitchell was far better against KU. His +/- was -3. Thiero's was -26! NEGATIVE TWENTY SIX! Some of the posters on this site are incredibly unsophisticated when it comes to understanding basketball. I love Thiero's energy, fearlessness, athleticism, etc., and he seems like a GREAT kid...

Mitchell chokes in every close game

The site hasn't been updated yet for this game, but evanmaya.com has his Bayesian Performance Rating as 5.59, which puts him at #74 among all D-1 players. Thiero's BPR is 1.03, good for #1387. There's a reason why he's not playing, and I suspect "general soreness" isn't it.

    Reeves Against Real Competition

He shot poorly in the first half when it was still reasonably close. Didn't show up. Being able to hit shots in the 2nd half when your team is down 20 doesn't constitute "showing up" for me.

    Reeves Against Real Competition

This was a loss, not a win, and it wasn't close. He shot well overall, but most of his makes came when we were down 20+, so can't say he was under any pressure.

    Reeves Against Real Competition

His points against Alabama were meaningless. It was a blowout - no pressure on him to perform. He didn't hit any meaningful shots.

    Reeves Against Real Competition

What so many don't get is that the team plays worse when he's on the floor firing away, because they are completely taken out of the offensive flow of the game. Take him out and get some ball movement (instead of a black hole) and maybe the other guys start making shots. He had 17 field goal...

    Reed-CJ

Then Reed is destined to be SEC Rookie of the Year. Awesome!

Told You Reeves is Elite…Listen to Me

My problem with Reeves isn't that he has a few bad shooting nights, it's that he keeps shooting even when he's ice cold and he has teammates who aren't. Against K-State, we can all agree he shot like crap. And I would be ok with that if he had, say, stopped shooting when he was 0-10 and instead...

Told You Reeves is Elite…Listen to Me

Last season Curry shot under 30% from three just 7 times in 56 games and made at least 2 threes in each of those 56 games. Reeves shot under 30% from three 12 times in 34 games and had 13 games with fewer than 2 threes.

Told You Reeves is Elite…Listen to Me

40% *is* streak shooting when one game is 60%, the next is 20%, then 50%, then 30%, . . . Which is pretty much how he shot last year.

TyTy Washington traded to OKC Thunder

Just looked it up. Was 3.36, which was 38th best in the entire league. And he also shot a very respectable .488 from 2, which isn’t surprising given his strong midrange game, even though it’s not that valued in the NBA.

TyTy Washington traded to OKC Thunder

I agree with you about his baby fat, but he did do one thing very well - had a better than 3:1 A/T ratio.
