    Did something happen to Croom?

The Clarion-Ledger has on the front page (now it looks like it's been moved to the sports section) of its website a photo retrospective of him, with no story or context - title is just "Mississippi State Football Coach Sylvester Croom Photos." Just the thing to get us in the mood for this season!

    OT: Ants

I know this won't directly answer your question, but I struggled with those suckers for years. Awful. Whole house could be spotless and if so much as one crumb of food fell on the floor they would suddenly just APPEAR out of nowhere. I didn't have a bug guy at the time - I just sprayed Ortho...

My comment about new beat writer and your replies has me wondering:

I think you’re right … writing for investors is probably what makes them steer more clear of spinning anything. And I’m center-right, but don’t read their editorials either. If I want to get all hopped up and pissed off about politics, I’ll go get on Twitter. You‘re also right about the price...

My comment about new beat writer and your replies has me wondering:

This whole process you're describing - reading an article, and then sussing out the bias and trying to think about it critically - is exhausting to me. Although, in fairness, a lot of them have gotten to where their bias is obvious (e.g., the NYT, like you mentioned). Most outlets on the left...

My comment about new beat writer and your replies has me wondering:

I'm 53, so am old enough to remember the joy of reading the paper on the weekends, esp. on Sundays, when it would be big. I subscribed to the Clarion-Ledger from the time I graduated from college until about 10-12 years ago ... by then I'd started getting more of my sports news from places like...

We got the CBS 2:30 game!

I'm just glad they're either away or at 6:30 ... my tickets are on the east side, and it felt like we spent the entire month of September 2025 trying to watch a game on the surface of the sun, while another, hotter sun beamed directly into our eyes.

So it looks like football ticket sales are, shall we say, lacking?

Yeah, when I was renewing my tickets I looked around the rest of the stadium just for Ss and Gs to see what was available ... and there are a lot of really good seats for sale in the lower bowls and upper decks. Interestingly enough, there's nothing (or almost nothing) in all the premium/club...

    OT: GTR airport

Agree, esp. when I’m traveling with my kids … I want at least a 2-hour layover. I don’t even mind longer ones than that - I’ve got access to a cpl of lounge networks and we‘ll all go hang out, get something to eat, charge our phones, people watch, etc, and relax, instead of having to worry about...

    On Lebby

This. I did mine the other day, and spent some time looking around at availability in different sections. Season ticket sales appear to be ... slow.

    Starkville Travel ball coach/umpire embarrassment

It’s a Mississippi JUCO with a historically good baseball program. My buddy says that, with the advent of NIL, recruiting has completely changed. Only your superstars will get recruited out of high school straight to a university with a good program (like State) … the rest will go to the good...

    Starkville Travel ball coach/umpire embarrassment

A guy I work with has a son who's a really good baseball player. They did the travel ball thing to the hilt - got him on some really good teams, spent their summer weekends driving all over the South, pulling a camper that the whole family would stay in, etc. And now it's paid off - he's a sr...

    State of the Union

Hoo boy - had completely forgotten about the Be Sick, that one AND the one on 12. I guess there was also some kind of Union Grill that was on the main floor where all the fast food places wound up going later ... don't know that I ever ate there, and I just vaguely remember it now that others...

    State of the Union

I was there from '90-'94 ... think that was just before they redid it and added the 4 places everybody's talking about (Great Wall, Subway, etc.). Don't know if there was anywhere to eat in the Union when I was there. There was the cafeteria, which was solid, and what pizza place was down...

OT - Best Mobile Phone Service - Who you got and why?

I've been with AT&T for close to 30 years now. Coverage in Mississippi is generally pretty good, just because the network traces its way back to the old BellSouth Mobility days. And since it's a legacy nationwide carrier, it generally has coverage anywhere in the US where you'd assume there...

    Old head phrases

So ugly they couldn't sneak up on a glass of water So stupid they could screw up a one car funeral So broke they can't pay attention Dumb as a box of hammers Everything's at sixes and sevens (confused) Do Baptists have buses (in response to a question that the answer is obviously yes)...
