    State of the Union

Hoo boy - had completely forgotten about the Be Sick, that one AND the one on 12. I guess there was also some kind of Union Grill that was on the main floor where all the fast food places wound up going later ... don't know that I ever ate there, and I just vaguely remember it now that others...

    State of the Union

I was there from '90-'94 ... think that was just before they redid it and added the 4 places everybody's talking about (Great Wall, Subway, etc.). Don't know if there was anywhere to eat in the Union when I was there. There was the cafeteria, which was solid, and what pizza place was down...

OT - Best Mobile Phone Service - Who you got and why?

I've been with AT&T for close to 30 years now. Coverage in Mississippi is generally pretty good, just because the network traces its way back to the old BellSouth Mobility days. And since it's a legacy nationwide carrier, it generally has coverage anywhere in the US where you'd assume there...

    Old head phrases

So ugly they couldn't sneak up on a glass of water So stupid they could screw up a one car funeral So broke they can't pay attention Dumb as a box of hammers Everything's at sixes and sevens (confused) Do Baptists have buses (in response to a question that the answer is obviously yes)...

OT: What was your hourly pay at the first W2 job you held?

$3.35/hour in '88 when I was in high school, working at a local business in my home town. Did general clean up, moving heavy stuff, cutting grass, etc. Every once in a while I'd get to work behind the counter and even answer the phone, which made me feel wildly professional. But the BEST**...

    RIP Dawson!

That's what I always heard, and the nurse warned me about it, but I got lucky and it really didn't bother me at all. Biggest pain was the fact that it was two shots, and I had to make a special trip back a week later to get the second one. I had a mild case of it on my chest prob around...

    RIP Dawson!

Agreed, everybody needs to go get one. Insurance used to not pay for them until you hit 50, but they lowered it to 45 a cpl years ago. Just as, if not more, important: go find you an internal medicine or family practice doc to establish a relationship with and get annual checkups from. I’ve...

    Football ticket sales going well??

Just renewed mine. I do think that the overall messaging/communications from the athletic office are generally better and more slick since Selmon took over, and they seem to be running more promotions than in the past (one of the last emails I got mentioned a "refer a friend" program that...

    OT: These weight loss drugs

Not a doctor, but work with a lot of them. They all say that, barring any major, unknown, negative side effects, this class of drugs will be revolutionary. Obesity causes a cascade of other health problems, and anything that's silver bullet-adjacent for obesity could mitigate tons of other...

Damn - Oxford got it bad...

I live in Oxford, and it really is pretty bad. My power went off Saturday night and came back on late last night, so was only off about 2 days. I’ve got gas logs in the living room and in the den, and they kept the downstairs pretty warm - it was only when it got down to like 15 at night that it...

    i need idea's for parent with Alzheimer's

Tough situation. I work kind of adjacent to this space, and I think the best approach to it is this: if somebody you're the caregiver for has the sniffles and a low-grade temp, it's fine to take them to an urgent care clinic, because that's the level of care they need. But if they have stage...

A question for my fellow oldsters…

I'm 53 and I'd guess it's prob been close to 10 years. As I saw somebody on Twitter say the other day, if I'm up at midnight tonight it'll be because I'm going to the bathroom.

    This is from Oxford:

I live in Oxford. The traffic yesterday afternoon and last night might have been the worst I’ve seen it in my 10 years here.

    OT: Wireless meat thermometers

I bought the Meater 4-probe set back in the spring and was so excited. Don’t know if I got a bad set, but it’s been super finicky and has been hell about dropping connections, not connecting to wifi, etc. By mid-summer I pulled my old ThermaPro wired 4-probe set back out and started using it again.

    Switched to Hulu Live +TV.....

You know how back in the day of classic cable you'd turn on your TV, and be greeted with the grid channel guide with the currently-playing channel minimized up in the corner? YTTV mimics that interface and, as someone else pointed out, you can even go into your account and delete the channels...
