Biggest “what if” players in Duke history

Bill Bradley. Duke thought he was coming until September, the day freshmen were supposed to show up for orientation. Coaches were in their office, waiting for the call to pick him up at the airport. Instead the call came from Bradley's father back in Missouri telling them his son would be going...

SEC completely curbstomped our conference …

Duke will be fine as long as it can avoid the bad losses. No more going to Georgia Tech or some such and losing. This is a young team, feeling pretty good about themselves right now. Can they stay focused and take care of business? We should know a lot more after the Louisville game this weekend.

The plan was to redshirt Loftis last season. If Murphy and Belin can stay healthy, Duke may revisit redshirting Loftis this season to get him back to his original track.

Minor correction. Conor's alma mater actually beat Delaware last year. They were ranked fifth in the FCS poll at the time. Otherwise, two thumbs up.

    Tribute to Sky- TRANSFERS

This thread seems a bit unseemly for mid-August.

Roach, Coleman and Brakefield were all freshmen in 2020-21, along with Mark Williams, Jalen Johnson and D.J. Steward. The expectation was that Johnson was the only OAD and Duke would get multiple years from the rest. Duke did get four years from Roach and two from Williams but everyone else...

    RIP Bob Newhart

One of the giants of his profession. Even late in life he stole every scene he was in on the Big Bang Theory.

Missed call, no doubt. But if Duke takes care of business, it never comes down to one call.

IU was 2 for 10 from beyond the arc, Duke 9 for 24. Jeffries had 24 points and 15 rebounds, but only shot 9 for 21 from the field. NPOY Jason Williams was 6 for 19 from the field. Other than the rebounding stats already cited the biggest indicator of a Duke defeat came from the foul line; Duke...

In some respects the 2002 loss to IU was the worst in Duke NCAAT history. Jeffries was their only future NBA player, while Duke had six. Duke had a 20-or-so point lead in the first half and Indiana simply out hustled and outworked Duke for the rest of the game. And it pains me to write that. IU...

Could not agree more. Check out Duke's rosters in 2002 (JWill, Boozer, Dunleavy, Duhon, D, Jones), 2011 (Irving, Smith, Singler, Plumlee, Plumlee, Kelly), 2017 (Tatum, Allen, Kennard, Jefferson, Jackson, Giles). None of them made it past the Sweet Sixteen. Injuries, bad matchups, bad...

And big brothers apparently. I remember when I was coaching youth baseball. Rec league, nothing travel-ball level or anything like that. The league was redrafted every two years after try-outs. Those coaches who had some integrity would warn fellow coaches that a player he may have coached...

    Duke baseball/CWS -- 2024 season

Agree on Connie. He had these weird minor-league stat lines, with lots of homers but nothing else positive. He's doing okay in AAA right now but he'll be 27 in a few weeks. Time is running out for him.

    Duke baseball/CWS -- 2024 season

Depends on how we define "significant." Guys like Ryan Jackson and Nate Freiman hung around for a few years. Matt Mervis and Graham Pauley have had some chances and are young enough to get some more. Alex Hassan grew up in New England and got a cup of coffee with the Red Sox at the end of one...
