    2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships Thread

As painful as it is to say, I’d wager that had Fix and Spencer switched colleges, Fix has at least two NCs

That’s 100% of the problem. It’s not about being slow or cautious, but eventually you’re gonna have to go. And if after 6 years at OK State, that’s the best offense that John was able to get out of Fix (this whole tourney, really), that’s a shame.

    Reason for optimism

Love it! Personally, I think we'd have been injured less, challenged Penn State for the title, and threatened the '05 team for most champs, but, Ferrari...

    Reason for optimism

LOL - you're right, that changes things. In the imaginary world where we keep Ferrari on the roster and he wins another title, we sneak in at 10th. Doesn't the fact that we're having that discussion show you where we're at as a program?

    Reason for optimism

I don't know about that - be honest, even if Ferrari comes back and wins a title and scores 20, we're STILL not a top 10 team this year.

    Killing a program

Ha! Maybe even not in-season, but you don't have to look far from John to find an example of how even the off season partying affects wrestlers in-season.

    Killing a program

Appreciate the support, but it seems worth asking - is there any point at which you'd suggest a change? I mean, we're sitting behind Purdue, Princeton, etc. If John's bigger than the program, fine, but let's start there so we can stop expecting results.

    Killing a program

If 10 years ago, you told me that we were going to be in the rearview for Mizzou (DISTANT rearview), I wouldn't have believed you. But this seems to be the new normal, and it's been a couple years, with everyone saying it, but nothing changing. Not sure why to expect any different...

Head Coaching change-Is now the right time?

It's interesting, and I hadn't thought about it like this before. But when we think about wrestler development, Yes - that is what that sentiment means. If we're satisfied with where we've been for the past decade, we're good. If we want to win another title, ever, we will have to do something...

Head Coaching change-Is now the right time?

I'm sorry, but I just can't see how that happens. I mean, if you're willing to turn down a fully funded RTC because the donors want to be closely involved in the program, you think he's stepping down because we're underperforming?

Head Coaching change-Is now the right time?

Really well said - I'm not sure how we got here, if it's a lack of energy in the building, or just the normal running down that happens over the course of a career. I do think it's a better idea to have a next step in mind before doing anything, but I'm not sure there's anyone in the building...

    It's Bedlam Week!!!

Totally understand - but what you're arguing is that our recruited lineup was worse than what we have now. That sounds like a recruitment problem, no? And when it comes to the 9.9 scholarships thing - it's a new world, either we get with the NIL and RTC stuff, or we're just gonna be not very...

    It's Bedlam Week!!!

Part of the weirdness is that it's one thing for the program management to be subpar, but I'm shocked to see the generalized wrestler regression that's taken place over the past few years. Seems like you can count on one hand the number of guys that consistently improved over their careers...

    It's Bedlam Week!!!

Doing anything different would be a start - part of the problem with saying "John is our coach as long as he wants to be" is that we're approaching everything with a 1995 mindset. And it ain't 1995. I keep hearing about how there are too many Oklahoma kids starting for us to be successful. Who...

    Pat Mieno

Like Pat Smith for the RTC. And TBH, at this point, who cares about probation - I mean, how about just winning one? Hell, how about getting someone that's been program-developed to win an individual title - we're approaching a decade since someone that was really developed in the program won one.
