Transfer Portal 2026 + Other team movements

Is academically ineligible still a thing? I remember when athletes had to reach certain academic benchmarks. I never read about it anymore. I'm curious how so many kids, in all sports, can go from school to school and maintain eligibility for 6/7 years without a degree.

    The 3-Point Takedown - Folkstyle's Sea Change

We have Cael to blame for all of this. "It's just a game, go out and score points, and have FUN ... it's okay to lose." If Cael didn't introduce this mindset to the sport, everything would still be copacetic. Coaches who believe that 'winning is the only thing' have had to adapt. Now it's 'win...

    The 3-Point Takedown - Folkstyle's Sea Change

I think that most agree that a step rule in Folk would need to be a bit different from Free. The most obvious would be when the action begins from the referee's position... no step-out point. It might even extend to wrestling from neutral only.

    The 3-Point Takedown - Folkstyle's Sea Change

Great analysis. I like the 3-point TD, but it hasn't had the effect I expected. The biggest issue with Folk is that wrestlers are allowed to stall. There would be no need to change the rules if refs had the balls to call it. Unfortunately, that's not the case. The Delgado and Heil rules were...

    EARLY 2026-27 lineup projections/discussions

IMO, OkSt pretty much maxed out at 184+197 (26 points). Maybe those scenarios add a few points, but hardly enough to close the gap.

    EARLY 2026-27 lineup projections/discussions

My point isn't about where or why they left, it's about where they chose to go. Max could have gone to a lot of places that needed a 184-pounder, but he took the more difficult path.

    EARLY 2026-27 lineup projections/discussions

Not that I think it will happen, but never say never. Elite wrestlers like Messenbrink, Rocco, and Max Dean didn't shy from competition. A 4-1 SV to Mendez was Stanich's only loss; I can see where he might have a lot of confidence in himself. Blaze to 141 could be a 2-year plan with Stanich...

    EARLY 2026-27 lineup projections/discussions

The US Open generally comes about 4 weeks after the NCAA finals. That would be enough time for Mitch to cut 10 pounds, but not ideal. MM gets to wrestle where he wants; everyone else will compete for what's left.

    26-27 Rosters

Returning points PSU - 165 OkSt - 116.5 Neb - 69 OhSt - 43 Iowa - 42 Teams will be adding new faces and juggling lineups, but our bench is as strong as anyone's. A 50-point head start will be hard for OKSt to overcome

    EARLY 2026-27 lineup projections/discussions

An interesting comparison. Projections here include only wrestlers already on the team. On HR, they are already pencilling in 3 to 4 transfers. Leading candidates are Joey Blaze, Luke Stanich, Nicco Ruiz, and Aden V. They're going all in on a 3rd/4th place trophy.

    Stalling

Rules are just words on a piece of paper. Ultimately, it's the refs who define the parameters. What we witnessed this weekend was pretty much how the game is played now ... unfortunately. I understand the refs not wanting to affect the outcome of a match. Still, by ignoring obvious stalling...

What Programs Will Iowa Gut This Off Season?

Remember when Edinboro was a top-10 team, and the MAC always had several wrestlers make a deep run. It wasn't that long ago. Now, Lehigh is the only small PA school still in the top-20, and the entire MAC conference combined for 9 points this year. I know the reasons behind Edinboro's decline...

2026 NCAA Championship Session VI Thread

Why did the NCAA decide to allow finger grabbing? The sport is looking for more action, and they gave wrestlers another stalling tool. Speaking of more action, I like the pushout rule. It would have to be applied only when wrestlers are in neutral, though. Not when action begins from the...
