Rutgers Men's Soccer Hosted Yale on Monday Night

the roster seems stacked with academy level talent, quality international players, and a key transfer or two. Maybe the central D has taken a slight hit with the recruit who chose not to play in college, but the freshman goalie looks to be outstanding. Barring major injuries to key players, it...

Rutgers Men's Soccer Hosted Yale on Monday Night

yes, it is. hoped for a 3-0-1 or 3-1-0 coming out of these 4 non-conference not particularly tough games, rather than 1-1-2. Two more what look to be very winnable non-con games coming up next (Rider and Albany)-it would be good to go into B10 play 3-1-2.

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

It’s all interesting to me and thanks for bringing it up. I would be interested to hear what your MLS friends might have to say about the whole USSDA/MLS/college soccer relationship that I was mentioning above.

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

I’m not sure what that means either. It doesn’t seem to be a given that most MLS coaches would be particularly knowledgeable about college soccer programs. NCAA is increasingly irrelevant to MLS—maybe less than 3-5%of rosters have US college players I think...

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

I just think it’s time to see what McElderry can do. He’s in a great situation. Only way to go is up. If he brings a distinctive and exciting brand of quality play to the banks then the dividends will be high. Each win will bring excitement and should build inertia to help recruiting. Very...

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

In terms of recruiting and academies, I’d also say that DA academies aren’t some magical breeding ground for top notch recruits. Sure, they tend to have the upper echelon of youth players, but each roster has a range of talent, just as academies will have some variation in quality levels between...

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

Sounds like he already has some decent academy connections. FC Copa isn’t actually an academy though-and is a club known much more for women’s than men’s soccer. The only USSDA academies in NJ are PDA, Cedar Stars Bergen, Cedar Stars Monmouth, and Red Bull. Many clubs will call themselves...

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

Nuts. Take note. This interview is “good stuff”-not that weak empty other interview that got posted that you got all bothered about me saying it was mediocre.

Olympic Sports Q&A with Rutgers Men's Soccer Head Coach

Nah. Not like that. I said let’s see what he brings to the table and that this was only an interview. It was just kind of a weak one. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action. Just kind of non informative interview.

Olympic Sports Q&A with Rutgers Men's Soccer Head Coach

I’m not sure about good stuff. I was thinking more along the lines of mediocre stuff. I mean it’s just an initial short interview, but his answers to questions about recruiting and about academies were totally vague and not really confidence inspiring. Proof will be in the proverbial pudding...

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

Next questions: When do we hear some kind of statement from new coach about visions for program? How many players will come with him as transfers from Fordham and/or incoming recruits he had lined up who will now come to RU? Will any Donigan recruits decide not to come or be discouraged from...

Olympic Sports McElderry hired as head coach

Thanks for this thoughtful post. I agree with your posts, and would just add the following. In terms of PDA, that’s gonna be somewhat tough at first perhaps because of the ties Donigan and his staff had/have there. But we will see. In any case, I think that cedar stars is an academy system that...

    Soccer - top candidates

He’s the one I was most intrigued by. We’ll see how it works out. I think it’s kind of a great situation for a new head coach to step into. Fairly easy to improve on last couple of seasons. Should be able to capitalize on fan and player excitement at the possibility of positive change. I think...
