Actually, Notre Dame lost the consolation game to Arkansas. Digger didn't even wanna play. He mentioned at that Final Four that the NCAA should do away with the 3rd place game. About 3 years later, they did just that.

Duke beat the Cats something like 55-54. Kyle Macy missed a jumper at the buzzer.
Two nights later, Purdue beat Duke to go to Indy for the Final Four.
I attended both games as I was a Freshman at UK that year.

I was a Junior in high school. The last time UK had won a championship I was negative 3 yrs old (1958).
That 77-78 season was such a fun year.
