Sometimes a program needs a new voice. Pope wasn't the hire we needed, but having Cal here wasn't going to improve things, either. I look at Pope as a bridge to a better hire.

I don't think he would have been a good hire, but it's rather ridiculous to leave out a coaches two best years in an attempt to prove your point(s). From 2020 and 2021, his teams went a combined 55-9 with a national title. You cannot skip that when evaluating a coach.

I don't think he is a great coach, but he isn't average either. Plus, there was no championship during covid, the tourney was cancelled. That said, Baylor probably would have won it that year if there was a tourney. They smoked just about everyone they played.

I think a few years ago it would have been possible to pry Drew away from Baylor. However, from what I read he has at least 1 kid in high school, possibly 2. Thats a bad time to move your family if you don't have to.
