    We are getting Chip Kelly!

Hankwitz was an old guy who didn’t like to recruit and didn't run an innovative scheme. That worked out ok.

OSU-Texas: Texas drive to the 1yd line play sequence

Taking nothing away from OSU’s very impressive DL the Texas RT had poor technique on that play. His first step with his right foot was terrible. That was all it took - game over. And credit to 33 for taking full advantage of that mistake.

    Football Players in Kellogg?

Having gone to b school after two years I’d completely agree it isn’t very much real world experience but also think it is more than adequate to get a lot out of an mba. I probably would’ve gotten more out of my degree with 3-5 years of work prior but don’t think I was at a real disadvantage...

    Football Players in Kellogg?

I asked about starting my mba at Kellogg during my fifth year (and staying the following year to conclude it). This was ~25 years ago. I got a meeting with the dean I think (can’t remember exactly) and he was very nice but it was extremely clear it was complete non-starter. I went to Stanford...

NIL payments and public disclosures and taxes

Not all but some NILs are structured as 503c3 charities so presumably there is some disclosure via 990 forms. Not sure about the for profit structures - guessing no detail required.

    Blake Smith scholarship

Disagree. He’s earned it, so give it to him. Got to do right by players already in the program.

    Seniors back.

I believe Niro is the third.

How long until the AD and president are fired?

Exactly. The same set of facts he thought were worthy of a two week suspension on Friday are worthy of firing today. The initial decision was clearly wrong, and the Prez looks pathetic and couldn’t have handled this situation worse if he tried.

    Men's lacrosse

While I think your comments are reasonable for other sports, for men’s lacrosse I strongly disagree. The Ivy’s are very competitive in the sport despite giving zero scholarships. So it’s clearly not necessary if you have an academic experience kids value. Other schools increase effective aid by...

    Men's lacrosse

NU is fund raising for a (richly deserved) new stadium for the softball team. My solution is: give Rocky Miller to softball, shut down the baseball program, start men’s lax. Would suck for the baseball players (should fund them all through graduation if they wanted to stay) but I would make...

I’ll post on both boards - Scane Train leads NU to the Final Four

Will be an interesting game. Denver runs a zone defense scheme very successfully. Cats have faced some zone this year but mostly man to man so a different test. Denver is undefeated but against a weaker schedule, although they’ve beaten BC and Maryland so they are legit. Arguably the best O on...

    Colorado transfers

Don’t love what’s going on here - at Colorado specially and cutting more broadly - but this detail does make me more ok with it. Still sucks for the kids but at least they have the option to stay. “ The NCAA rule says you can have those discussions. If a student-athlete wants to stay, they can...

Props to Coach Prime! This guy is gonna kill it -

Obviously. That's been clear in practice for a long time. Just pointing out that this isn't a grey area that is being exploited, but rather that it is a direct violation of ethics schools like UC publicly committed to uphold. That said, I'm hardly surprised or shocked that is the case.

Props to Coach Prime! This guy is gonna kill it -

Or, you know, if the school honors it’s commitments… Linked article references that in 2015 the Power 5 conferences agreed to all offer 4 year scholarships that couldn’t be taken away for athletic performance. Maybe they’d claim he isn’t actually doing that but certainly isn’t honoring the...
