    Quitting Smoking

My summer jobs involved working with hand tools. So when I could not deal with a cig in hand, Copenhagen was the nicotine delivery system of choice. Most would spit the juice out the windows of our trucks. Boss was really ticked about this. so the solution was to spit in a cup. Problem with...

    Quitting Smoking

Mostly Marlboros. But also on occasion Camels, Pall Malls and whatever was available. In the 70's I was on a fire crew in Alaska during college. We were given surplus C-rations from the late 60s or early 70s when we were in the bush for a period of time. Each meal contained 4 cigs which...

    Quitting Smoking

I quit 43 years ago. When I asked my wife to marry me she said only if I quit smoking (1-2 packs a day at the time). This was over Christmas/New Years, not a good time to try to quit. I got a book, I think entitled "How to quit Smoking". The author quit smoking, decided to write a book and...

    Happy National Pie Day, '26

Wet bottom vs dry bottom pies, I believe. I prefer the wet bottom. We had black forest pie this evening.

    Biltmore Estate

Been there twice. Once at Christmas and once in spring. The Christmas decorations were something to see. Main dining roomset up was incredible. Huge Christmas tree in the dining hall. Did the behind scenes tour, well worth it. Fascinating to see how the super wealthy live over 100 years...

James Franklin’s house in Port Matilda

It is only a Port Matilda mailing address. The house is less than 10 minutes on the bypass to Beaver Stadium. It is a very upscale isolated neighborhood with very easy access to State College and is in State College School District.

OT: TCM 31 Days of Oscar Highlights Tonight

I saw Das Boot in the theater when it came out. Have not seen it since. I have been hoping it would show up on TCM for a long time.

Would this be a good real estate investment?

The cost is not tied up in the acreage. It is in a nice spot. Close to a lot of outdoor activities including a State Forest within a mile but there is nicer acreage within 55 miles of State College.

    New Nancy Guthrie only thread

Watching an old movie, "The Lost World". The Manuel Gomez character played by Fernado Lamas is wearing his holster with pistol exactly like the guy in the ring camera photo. Is that a thing?

For 18 years and off and on for 7 more I lived on a 30 acre in active farm. Trout fishing, hunting, hiking, bike riding to elementary school, playing outside until dark, sleeping outside and counting falling stars. A great way to grow up which will never be reproducible today.

Would a small package nuclear reactor fit?

I would not be buying it for the kitchen or baths. Look at the mechanicals if all operational. Check the blast doors. You don't get those in a tract home.

Would this be a good real estate investment?

When I was a kid, none of the roads currently marked with names on google maps were named. Everyone's address was RD and a route number. Ours was RD#1. The mail carriers had to know people then. Our mail carrier happened to be a neighbor. Had the last name on the mailbox. All packages were...
