    NCAA tourney open thread

St. Louis really did a number on Georgia. Somewhere in the afterlife, my Dad (SLU ‘36) and Easy Ed Macauley are sharing a six pack of Budweiser and smiling.

2027 Calif. OT Clint Lundin to visit Northwestern twice in the coming months

De La Salle has been the premier NorCal football program for years. It would be great to get a recruiting foothold there.

On the non-call at the end last night

Clearly, the refs blew the call. If I was a Hoosier fan, I would be mad. If they had whistled, I wonder if (after the inevitable replay review) they would have called it a shooting or common foul. DeVries clutched on contact, pulled the ball down and then shot. Thinking back to the call on...

    Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Iowa

Checked on replay, full 6 seconds on the inbound, almost 7. Icing on the cake from an officiating standpoint

Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Penn State

Cats had 88 points from the floor, only 6 on free throws, most by far since Cleveland State game.

Wow. That may be the worst stretch of basketball by the Cats since the Chicago State loss.

One small observation of defense against Minnesota

I haven’t had the stomach to watch this team as closely as I have in the past, but one thing I noticed yesterday was that Minnesota was regularly able to take advantage of the Cats’ defensive rotation and isolate a forward on Reid near the basket. It appears to me that this happening because...

    Shoutout to Coach Braun

Two and a half years ago when the hazing stuff blew up, I figured NU football was a dead issue for at least five years. Since then, NU has had 2 of 3 winning years (one in theB1G) and hired a high profile assistant. While I am sure the AD hire helped, the way Braun has navigated the changed...

Comments/questions about Aristotle Thompson if new OC brought in

I have been really impressed by Aristotle Thompson in his role as running backs coach for the Cats and before that, Cal. This year, NU needed to use 5 different players due to injury, and all seemed to know and were able to competently execute their assignments. Each one also made me say to...

The Standard is So So High Now

The revelation at center does not understand the defensive scheme they are trying to play. That is a problem.

The Standard is So So High Now

I have to disagree with your description of this team as pretty good. It may grow to be pretty good. Right now, it is very indecisive on defense, is poor at rebounding, and falls into periods of lethargy on offense. I hope it improves. I am not betting on it right now.

Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Ohio State

If you are blaming this on the refs, you are clueless.

What did we do to earn the wrath of the AIRBHG?

About 20 years ago a writer for Black Hearts Gold Pants coined the acronym AIRBHG as shorthand for the Angry Iowa Running Back Hating God as a way of explaining a string of injuries to their backs. Last night when I watched my recording of the Cats’ after returning from Berkeley and Cal’s upset...
