    What really happened to Cal?

Excellent points have been shared, some of which I repeat. 1. NBA Early Entry has accelerated since he first arrived (plus, some of best talents bypass college altogether now). So talent gap has shrunk not only for UK but between all teams. Rare to have lottery-level upperclassmen or even...

Mashburn says buddy RP deserves to coach again

They are friends and business partners. I get his loyalty along with others. RP might deserve an opportunity to be considered. But an AD or college prez, understandably, would have to be really careful with his track record. Wins games, but is a load to deal with and got worse with age as Jurich...

    '96 Team

That and 12 were such special years. The early losses and SEC Title Game losses also got them focused. 96 was like Noah’s Ark (think Rafferty said), they had 2 of everything.

indiana recruiting looks like they can't get anyone to come there

Yep. Been saying for years they need a complete rebrand. The candy stripes, not an exciting style of play, etc. UK got bashed for one-and-done, but that and the dribble drive (for a while) gave Cal and UK an identity. Duke even re-branded at turn of century, going from IBM of college hoops to...

Tracking N’Faly Dante’s Peach Jam performance

Looks like Dante has come a long way since I saw him this spring. Really good hands and pretty soft touch. Movement & footwork also improved. Needs to get little more aware on D and in stance to help on D and hold position. But I’m sure he’ll continue to get better there. If he comes to college...

    2019-20 Roster Analysis & Projection

I'm always confident Cal will develop the team into a really good defensive unit. I'm equally always concerned about putting up enough points at tourney time. That's been a major issue past two seasons. Seems if you take away the high ball screen and P&R, our offense just dies at tourney time...

    Defensive potential

Yes, think can be really good on defense. Hard to say till we see them (last year Herro better than expected, Johnson worse). As said, Cal will mold them into a solid defensive team and lots of good parts to fit his switching man style. I’ve been worried about the offense, especially past two...

Which Big Time college sports team/program will be the next Indiana?

I agree with Duke. They have farther to fall than others. Going to be really hard to replace K. They likely will not fall as far as IU, but will be hard to maintain the type off success K has had. UK and UNC do a really good job of weathering bad coaching hires (Billy G. and Doherty).

Does anyone remember when IU actually mattered?

Great post. Was talking about this the other day. In 92, IU was definitely a top 5 program all time and arguably in top 3. Clearly ahead of Duke and KU. Knight (and Denny Crum) didn’t adapt. Talent level dropped and to this day their talent rich state gets raided. Have said for a while they...

    UK Classic Rewind: UK-Stanford 1998

Was never consistency in his recruiting, especially his last 5 years. Kept going after bigs who just didn’t have athleticism to play at UK’s level. Think he liked those 7-footers, in theory, as fit ball line scheme. But if you pulled them 4 feet from rim, could never recover. His time at UK, and...

    UK Classic Rewind: UK-Stanford 1998

Yes, the 03 team really got on a roll in SEC play. That Bogans injury just awful luck as he was the only guy with the size/ability to slow down Wade. When Wade hit a couple of early 3s, I knew we were in trouble cause you had to try and crowd him. They were on that day. Then played awful vs...

    UK Classic Rewind: UK-Stanford 1998

Having him off bench just wore teams down. Not old enough to know, but assume what it was like to play vs. Robey and Phillips.

Yes, "Mad Dog" Madsen. He fouled out but was a moose in the paint.
