Montini Catholic QB Izzy Abrams to the Miami Hurricanes

Congrats to the kid. Quite an honor and probably quite a bag đź’° too.

    IHSA competitive balance committee minutes

Hard to say. I kinda doubt it based on the overall success that class had going all the way back to when they were little kids, but - maybe? He did win two state baseball titles (three trophies), got a D1 scholarship and had a pretty solid MLB career, and also got to be an all state football...

This possibility already exists. It already happens to certain suburban schools that don’t have strong programs. The difference with separation would be that the public schools wouldn’t get beat with “their own” kids. Just throwing this out there. I’m not at the level of wanting total...

    Massey Preseason Top 25 Illinois

They should be able to win 4A without much issue, which would put them into 5A. Based on where everyone else is currently projected to align, I’d have them as pretty clear favorites in 5A the next two years which would then place them in 6A. Certainly not a lock, but that scenario would not...

    Massey Preseason Top 25 Illinois

Montini already back. Just a very well constructed roster. They hit a rough patch and slummed around in the lower levels for a while, but I would not be one bit surprised if they were back in 6A in a few years.

    Minonk (Fieldcrest)

I believe they weren’t getting enough kids from G-SW to justify nearly doubling their enrollment and going from 1A to 2A (and awfully close to 3A.) Pretty sure they were the largest 2A in 2024 and Wilmo was smallest 3A.

Generally agree with all this, except I don’t think Dwight has their co-op with Gardner anymore. Their enrollment went from 403 in 2024 to 210 in 2025 and they are not listed as a co-op per IHSA.org.

This already happens. Also, a private donor paying tuition for a student athlete is not exactly the same thing as a “scholarship”

I don’t know a ton about what Morris has coming back. I think they lose a lot of their skill kids including the Varners and Curran. I expect Coal City to be improved from last year. Henline is a legit QB and Natyshok is a burner. Not sure about their line, but they always seem to find some...

Wilmington has a few very good players coming back, but they lose quite a bit. Kettman was a Mt Rushmore type and their line was probably their best ever, graduating 4/5 there including three 3 year starters. The lower levels were not very successful either this past season. To be fair, the...

    2026 schedule openings

If Wilmo has a really great edition vs a run of the mill Hilltoppers squad, they could keep the clock from running - but it would still be a JCA win and likely a comfortable one. As for next year, Wilmo lost quite a bit. They will probably be in decent shape for a 2A or 3A playoff run, but a...

    2026 schedule openings

I realize the listings on IHSA.org might not be all inclusive, but the only other week 2 I see listed next year that fits for a 2A/3A is Ridgewood out of Norridge. Despite the playoffs expansion, I doubt there would be much mutual interest for Wilmo to play Brother Rice, Providence, Naz, St...

    2026 schedule openings

Looks like Quincy ND is open week 2 per the IHSA site. That would be a decent fit for Wilmo.
