    Returning 6 linemen and 4 of them were all conference is a pretty good place to start. An experienced QB, the most explosive WR in the conference, and the best defender in the conference might make them tough to beat.

    Forbush is in the same county as Starmount. It is a Yadkin county rule. It wouldn't apply to Elkin.

    Ummm... what? 26 years ago Starmount was a year removed from a state championship and had won like 15 of the last 16 conference championships.

    The only reason Elkin has ever been relevant is because of Starmount and EW players. I bet you can guess which side of the river Coach Rycroft himself lived on. Really nice guy btw. It doesn't matter who the coach at Elkin is unless he can recruit the other side of the bridge.

    Sage Surrat has a pretty strong case. All conference in football and basketball all 4 years. 366 receptions for 5,926 yards - State records 2,951 points in basketball - Second in NC history

    Mindset don't make you run a 4.4. Not that it isn't important but you still need the Jimmy's and the Joe's. On the 70 something yard touchdown early in the second half against Murphy, that defensive back could have all the mindset he wanted and he wasn't catching the Tarboro kid.

    Also, in the future, the only way I see the eastern pecking order changing is the retirement of a legend followed by bad decisions at the admin level OR one of the charter or privates rising up.

    What I'm saying is that in the east, Tarboro is such an exception and an outlier that it is just automatic. There are zero legitimate challengers outside of games against teams in higher classifications.

    I know this has been hashed out before and I have made it clear that I have nothing but respect and admiration for Tarboro, BUT... when the toughest game you play all year is against the team from the west, then it is easy to have an all or nothing mindset. I don't mean non conference games...

    They've lost a few throughout the season with season ending injuries, but as healthy as can be expected in the 5th round of the playoffs.
