    Caffey Enters Transfer Portal

I am not sure of the answer to this, but if Caffey was looking for a 7th year, did that mean that she'd already had 6 years of her education paid for on scholarship? If so, going on NIL money for one semester doesn't strike me as unreasonable. But to repeat, I'm not sure about this.

    In Honor of Lexi Sun

I have been very impressed with her demeanor on the sidelines--seems to be quite supportive of her teammates and has not seemed to whine or sulk about not getting much playing time. Much respect to her!

    Around the bend Steakhouse

Best advice for going on a Saturday night: be prepared to wait, unless you're there by about 5:00. I second Scarletred's comment about the top sirloin: it's quite a hunk of meat.

1917... know I’m late to the party, but...

250Vert: The Battle of the Somme occurred in 1916 and is in central France. The attack that is to take place in "1917" is in northern France, where there is indeed chalky white soil. But overall your point is well taken: Mendes did a fine job in recreating realistic conditions, though he...

1917... know I’m late to the party, but...

Some excellent choices. I would add: Paths of Glory--yes, it was released in 1957 and is in black and white, but Stanley Kubrick directed it and it featured Kirk Douglas in his first major starring role. It's based on a book with the same title. The movie was so powerful that it was...

    OT: Goodbye Mrs. Boxes

Boxes--sure sounds like you loved her intensely and she loved you back with equal intensity. May you take comfort in this for the rest of your days, because there's not much better in life than having truly loved someone and being truly loved in return. That you will miss her so acutely is a...

    OT: Good reads

Since you mentioned the Vietnam War and no one has responded yet, I'll make a few suggestions. First, you might start with a non-book: the multi-part documentary on the Vietnam War produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, which would supply an easily-digested overview of the war. This was...

Check out this score from Iowa H.S. football...

Nebraska used to have a "45 rule." If a team was behind by 45 or more points in the second half, the game was declared over. It was a mistake to eliminate that rule.

    Teams I enjoy watching now....

Cubsker: I've rooted for Cal for a long time (so I've endured some rough years) and you're right: it's great to see a defense play with such grit even though, as you say, they are probably not as athletically gifted as some other teams. What a pleasure it was to watch the Golden Bears swarm...

    Volleyball

Red Steve: of course Hunter is THE key, but since that point had already been made twice in this thread I didn't think it was necessary to repeat it.

    Volleyball

Some excellent info in this thread, but to clarify a few points: Sydney Townsend is NOT the libero--Kenzie Maloney is. And if anyone watched the way she and JWO worked together last year (as opposed to watching the ball), Maloney's exceptional play this year would not be a surprise. Townsend...
