    House settlement approved

It’s a great question. Culture eats strategy for lunch, as they say. What does “trying to succeed” do to the institution? To the fabric of the University. I went to NU in the 1980s, pre-Barnett. The current iteration is, in many ways, completely unrecognizable to me. There was a slow...

It’s June on a football message board. There is little new.

    House settlement approved

The issue is how to unwind. Once the “final arrangement” is made with the super league (that I still argue will be an NFL affiliation), how do the relegated programs fund themselves? They will still have their new tradition of many employee-athletes to pay. Will B1G Network receipts in this...

    House settlement approved

I was referring to the University, of which the athletic program is but a part… …was but a part? Perhaps you are correct that one cannot anymore conceive of Northwestern University without its revenue-generating athletic program.

Death wish? Didn’t UChicago make a similar decision after being a conference member for 50 years? I would say staying in is more likely a death wish as NU is not going to make it to the end of this game of musical chairs and could be putting its tax-exempt status at risk under this administration.

Home Game- "wear black" - vs Purdue (title edit)

Typo. It was supposed to be Pro Motion. Recent fan attire has been deemed anti- motion, resulting in sluggish play by the squad.

HS Recruiting is Close to Flopping

You gotta give NU a couple years with the new facility to establish consistently good concert lineups. Then it will start getting commits who appreciate music. I think that is a key strategy.

CEO to oversee college sports rules enforcement...

“College football is fairly significant. It's a big operation. A lot of revenue. That's all we talk about anymore, is revenue. A lot at stake here, and we still don't know what the rules are. It shows you just how screwed up things are, quite frankly." College football! There you have it.

    New NIL commission coming?

Not that there is any doubt, I was no Otto. But the word was the Kellogg QB played for a D2 school during undergrad. He could fling it.

    New NIL commission coming?

True. But athletes would be compensated only in situations where football is chiefly a money-making enterprise.

    New NIL commission coming?

This assumption is your chief error. College football teams are altogether intended to make money for the school. They evolved to having that chief purpose over past years but this is undeniably their current raison d’etre. In this context, NU is using its football team as a lever to establish...

    New NIL commission coming?

You are going too easy on the university. It is the entity which is initiating the relationship with the player. The player is responding to an opportunity made available by the university. The issue is the university is providing this opportunity which is converting the student into an...
