Does feel like the top of the 2028 class is filled with Penn state connections. Not sure how many they can add after the loaded 2027 class but they’re in a good position.
Poster on the HR board speculating that Sanchez and O’Neill are both strong PSU leans and that Hutcherson will come down to PSU/Iowa likely in that order.
I wasn’t aware Sanchez is close with Nagao could definitely help the good guys.
What’s O’Farill’s relationship with the Bassetts like? Would be a great addition but if he’s close with that group have to think Va-Tech would be favorites for him.
Anyone feeling less optimistic after U23 that Henckel will be the best option at 174? Still think he’s very talented, but if you want to put the best possible lineup on the mat would he be a better option that Duke or MM? I know you’ll risk losing him but if redshirts are a thing of the past...
In the interview he mentioned having one year of eligibility. Might make sense to push it to next year, not sure they need him this season.
Selfishly, I’d like to see him in the lineup this year.
Have to think we might be in the drivers seat on his recruitment. Seems to be a solid pipeline with the KD wrestlers and there’s no shortage of talent in the room for middleweights to train with.
Something to consider, wouldn’t be a shock if a lot of these kids don’t want to wrestle 5 seasons. Could still see a scenario where 4 years is the norm. The season is a grind especially for kids with freestyle aspirations. Strategic use of an off year could become commonplace.
Not worried about Barr, you’re 6 months out from the start of the season plenty of time to recover. Kasak more concerning from an injury perspective but if he doesn’t go they have multiple options to fill the spot.
Don’t know how to even answer this one. Might go with Zain because if he had redshirted his true freshman year I think he’d have been a 4x champ. They were all so dominant this is really tough.
I don’t think Penn State would pursue Sanchez that hard. Howard has a lot of Penn State connections between his club coach and relationships with other guys on the team. Would think he’d be a Penn State lean.
