OT: Wow: Interesting Scene in the New Netflix Series..Turning Point-The Viet Nam War (Rutgers ROTC)

This stream brings back memories (good and bad). I am in the class of 1972 and was living in Hegman Hall in 1969. The night of the draft lottery I went to the Rutgers basketball game at the Barn (Rutgers won). While at the game, the draft lottery was taking place and one of my section mates...

OT: Anyone ever read Finnegans Wake? Is it as difficult to read like every says?

I am not a Joyce fan, but this thread is one of the most impressive ever. To discuss getting smoked by Purdue to the vagaries of Joyce in the same message board is indeed epic. Rutgers fans are truly renaissance people.

OT: Lumbar decompression Surgery (OK who's had it and what can I expect?)

I had surgery last August for a variety of issues at L2, L3. I have issues throughout the spine having previously had two surgeries in my neck. Surgery was successful and I can walk 4 miles (with a couple of stops) with a cane. I echo the other comments regarding using a neurosurgeon rather...

OT: Last reunion of any kind you attended

Went to my Rutgers College 50th last fall. The University did a nice job with dinners and events. By happenstance met up with 3 other guys from my freshman dorm, Hegeman 6, (back then Hegeman was divided into six houses). Sign of how times have changed: I got into a conversation with a...

    OT: Best (most insane) dinners

The Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi in the eighties. (Think Brazilian barbecue with local game and outdoors). Best combination of food and location: Le Tren Bleu in Paris. Entire experience outstanding and the Rocco architecture unbelieveable.

    Happy Birthday Rutgers

I wound up going to law school. I never clicked with the history dept. TA's and couldn't see myself being one of them. I had a high draft lottery number so didn't have to worry about Viet Nam and felt law school gave me more options (I was very undecided about what I wanted out of life). Law...

    Happy Birthday Rutgers

Professor McCormick (the elder) was my advisor (I'm class of 1972). Great teacher and he almost convinced me to go to grad school in history.

    OT: Delaware Beach Towns

Lewes is the quietest of the towns mentioned. While it is true that the town beach is on the bay, Cape Henlopen state park at the south end of town is smack on the ocean and has lots of activities on its 5000 acres. You also have the ferry to go to Cape May.
