Hopefully Cal has noticed that the teams that reach the FF now a days, are laden with veterans ie. Sophs and above.
I think he has known that for a while. I think he thought Hump would be here longer. Not sure he saw Lee leaving or SKJ. Hump killed me I felt like he was going to have a monster year the following one. He has been recruiting guys in the 30s like Shai and Herro and most thought both of them would be multiple year players. A decent amount of guys that left for the draft had no business leaving, recently Gabe and Vanderbilt. I feel like the past 3+ years he has tried to get a mix, but it just hasn't worked out. They overachieve or leave. He tried for Cam Johnson, but I guess he wanted to stay in the ACC and I think that was close to home. Matthews left and probably would have done well as a Sophomore, but only gave it one year like he was an OAD. Right now ESPN Top 100 draft prospects have him in the 70s I believe. He's good, but I think he could have done as good is not better here and we really could have used him last year.

If Cal is really interested, I think that says there are no other HS guys in play.

Seems like a viable choice.

I don't know you may be right, but I think we could get a reclass if Cal pushed and I'm not completely given up on Hurt or McDaniels. I think Cal like what he saw out of RT and wants that leadership and big banger body in the post. I hope he looks to add at least one a year or more. That would really help balance out the youth and they would all be starting new together anyway. So I say why not.

Cal wants him, or he wouldn’t be visiting. I am curious how you know he is ours. I imagine he will probably take other visits.
Read the story on him from yesterday. Yes I'm speculating but knowing Cal I think he will reel the kid in if he wants him. Also, kid has to know the name Reid Travis and the success he had this year. Last but not least kid looks like a UK player, just kidding. A lot of people on here will say that about kids that are involved with Puke, so I thought I would throw it in. I see things and hear things that no one else can and I have esp, and I'm crazy.

I have heard there is some concern that he may not be 6'9, but closer to 6'7. I don't care if he is 5'8 if he can play, well that may be a little small for playing in the post.

Cal said he is not looking for a grad transfer that wouldn't start. Can't remember the article but it's out there. So, Cal is looking for a PF imo to start from day one. Hopefully this kid is it.
This could be a gem where Cal spreads the floor more and uses their abilities to create more opportunities. Possible line-up:

PG- Hagans(if he returns) or Quickley
SG Maxey/ Baker
SF Brooks/Whitney
PF Sestina/EJ
C Nick

It's going to be hard to play Ashton and Nick together because they are both so limited offensively. It'd be like playing 3 on 5 on offense. And Brooks is more of an athlete than scorer.

The other option would be to put EJ at the 5 and bring Nick off the bench. That might even be a better line-up offense wise.

I think people expecting him to be as good as RT are in for a big letdown.

Nah, he won't be Travis.

But Nick can provide us the size/rebounding. He's longer than Travis and can get his shot off over people. He can block shots better than Reid.

We need Sestina to be a reliable guy off the bench. I think he's got a high basketball IQ and can shoot the 3. I think he's probably better off the bench than Richards has been this season. That said, we really need Nick to make a big step up next season.

That's assuming niether progress. Ashton and Nick could be deadly together on offense if they could develop the chemistry on the lob once Ashton gets in the lane.

It’s not the chemistry, it’s that Richards has the worst hands in history and couldn’t catch the lob anyway
Hands can be developed it has been done. And Ashton doesnt have great feel for the lob either. Like I said they need to develop and I'm sure they will improve their games. Assuming they return.

I don't see any lineup where Nick and EJ start together. Not unless both take huge jumps. I can see Ej starting and Nick coming off the bench.

“Nate Sestina does not know how good he is,” said senior guard Kimbal Mackenzie, one of Sestina’s roommates. “We’re constantly preaching that to him. He’s a beast in many regards. He can score the ball at three levels as a 6-foot-9, 245-pound center. He’s very difficult to defend. He has a great attitude and wants to get better. He’s supremely talente

Playing devil's advocate: While it sounds like he's humble, a player having to be reminded how good they are might not bode well against better competition. Kentucky has had issues with player confidence so it would be something to keep an eye on. A player that comes to mind here is Poythress.

Thanks for posting, he does look very smooth, but they all look good in the highlights. He may have difficulty scoring over more athletic players night in and night out he will face at UK.

This isn’t a mixtape. These highlights are against D1 competition. If you can’t watch those highlights and see true talent then you’re just looking to be negative.

I see what you're saying and that's a good point. A guy with his size and talent needs the mindset of Herro, "I'm a bucket". Lol Only this guy might need to say "I'm a big bucket". Lol

Looks pretty dang good against D1 level guys (I know RI isn't UT, Auburn, or LSU this year but still . . .). I think he could be just what we need for frontcourt depth and we could be what he needs for further development of a big guy who may want to play somewhere professionally. Could be a very nice outcome for all. Hope we get him.

I don’t think we can fully appreciate how our coaching staff brings in only high-quality young men to compete here. Cal has not had one knucklehead or controversy in 10 seasons. All of the players that have put on the Kentucky blue have represented the program very well.
This should be the narrative of our program nationally. Our reputation should be what it is;
high-caliber recruits, sportsmanship and success. I do not understand why hacks like Thamel and Forde look for issues with UK.

Kudos to Cal for adding the Grad Transfers to the roster. RT brought so much more than basketball skill to the floor. This could be the “stabilizer” our young team needs, hopefully we add Sestina.
