Adios

If Antigua isn't interested in coming back, bring in Rick Byrd. We need an offensive savant.
RIck Byrd ain't leaving the money he was making at Belmont, where he was king, to be someones assistant. He is going to stay retired.

Now that freshman big man might be eligible to transfer though....

How much did he make at Belmont? How much does Barbee make?

It's private so there's little info...a few years back he was making $750k a year....some around Nashville think he may have gotten the $1 million a year he wanted but I doubt it.

Barbee is making $440k and Justus is making $220k. Payne makes $900k and that's the only one we will pay significant digits to on the staff.

I think Barbee has done a great job with his defensive coaching. I'm not sure about his recruiting role but we have had excellent players here so it's hard to complain.

If this happens I hope Cal does consider an offensive minded assistant who plays the modern game. Launching 3’s etc. Cal is so loyal to his former players and friends he helps them out. We need one who recruits gravitate to as well. Usually it’s Cal who has to do the bulk for us, he needs a fresh face that can relate to these young players.

You know he got in trouble for letting a recruit sleep on his couch during an unofficial visit instead of just leaving him on the streets right? His brother was apparently the guy doing the rest
You think he did not know what his brother was doing, probably told his brother to do it. Just like Pitino did not know.

I would like to see some former players on the staff.......Derek Anderson, or Sam Bowie or Wayne Turner.......maybe Kyle Macy to teach free throw shooting

I'm not sure if Barbee is the problem, but he seems to be the guy most here question. Either way, I'd like some new blood in here. I hope Cal has the foresight to see what areas he lacks, that an up and coming assistant can help with.

Every three months Barbee and Justus trade their reputation as the coaching weak link that needs to go. And it all happens without our fans having any notion of what they actually do.

I’ve always wondered where those opinions come from. Unless folks travel with team, attend every practice, sit in team locker room and in sideline huddles, how on earth could they possibly know what the assistant coaches bring to the table. It’s a head scratcher, for sure!

To think that Cal is going to stop running and micro-managing the offense is beneficial, wishful thinking. Cal is stubborn, possibly to a fault.

No way for me to know the value of the assistants, so best of luck to any who want to try somewhere else.

Seems like Robic was involved offensively before Barbee came on board, not sure. But the offense has not gotten any better over the years he's been on staff. It may be even worse. But not blaming him or anyone.

Not really. He didn’t get anything done at Auburn. UTEP is his best showing and about where he needs to be.

He now has a few more years as an assistant under a hall of fame coach at the top program in the country. That has to count for something too.
