It's not the same money or security as Kentucky and UCLA sure isn't Kentucky but it is still sunny California. If he or the little woman wanted to rub elbows with more celebs then that would be the place. I think he stays but what a temptation. UCLA doesn't come with lifetime contracts though and that spells love ... or does it spell scared?
If cal hadn’t already grown complacent a lifetime contract he will put it on cruise control. He’s ok with these types of seasons and when that happens it’s time to move to a new challenge
Let’s be real, Pitino has two titles. We all know that the NCAA plays favoritism. Other teams are cheating just the same but they only enforce the rules on certain programs and coaches. It’s funny to laugh at and not see it in the history books, but he was the coach of the number 1 team in 2013 that won 6 straight games and won the national title. They presented them the trophy. To act like it didn’t happen is just denying the facts. If you’d like my list of best, current coaches for the U.K. job, it would be:
1. Calipari with an updated philosophy in recruiting and game planning
2. Brad Stevens
3. Billy Donovan
4. Chris Beard
5. Tony Bennett
6. Bruce Pearl

I could only hope to have the same level of sustained success that we have experienced in the past decade. One or two better calls or bounces of the ball and that success could easily be tripled. To even be in that situation consistently and have the opportunity to cut down nets can directly be attributed to coach Cal and the work he puts in with these kids on a daily basis.
Add that to the fact that with all the FBI stuff going on, the scandalous agents, shoe companies, and we seem to be staying out of the negative headlines, it only makes what he has done even more impressive.
I count myself lucky to be experiencing such a great time to be a Kentucky fan. Having Cal sign a lifetime contract?

I'm o.k. with it as long as he makes adjustments to what he's doing,not saying he's doing a bad job.Let's face it,the recruiting is not what it once was as far as getting those top 3-4 players.Not sure why but,you give Cal Zion,Reddish and Barrett,I think he brings home the championship.

I’ve been to UCLA games and that fan base is **** compared to Kentucky’s or at least when it comes to basketball.

I haven't read a recent FORBES article that describes how much money men's basketball brings to the university. I suspect that there is a strong R.O.I. for UK at $9.2M/year.

I hope he takes it. We're in the conversation for a title every single year with him as our coach. In a single elimination tournament you really can't ask for more than that. We lost our last two elite eight games in OT and on a buzzer beater. With the tournament sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way. Anyone who wants him gone is crazy.
If it plays out as we all hope it will...that Cal is here till he retires in another 5-12 years...do you think he will bring in a young top notch assistant with the intent, announced or otherwise, that he will take over when Cal retires?

I love how Cal averaged 30 wins a season and made multiple deep runs in the tournament at a school that had one NCAA appearance in history (in the early 60s), and you summarize that as a failure.
I love how you think that he's had an "immense" level of talent for 30 years (try the last 2 years at Memphis until now, during which time he's been as successful as anyone in the country). Go look at the roster he used to beat the '96 Cats by double digits. There was exactly one high major recruited player on that squad.

Well quite literally it is a story published on April Fools day. So I guess there's that.
So if you were a coach with over 40 draft picks, a plethora of resources and support, and now at the Mecca of basketball, you wouldn’t consider one title disappointing? As a competitor, the pain of a loss sticks with me more than the joy of a win. If I were a coach and I looked back on my career with the resume Cal has, I’d be thinking about a lot of what if’s...
The concern I have is that somehow Cal has become bigger than the program, and he is now seen by a majority of fans as irreplaceable.

Irreplaceable is a bad term to use.
But when you have a HOF coach that has had unprecedented overall success over a 10 year period, you want to keep that coach.
Not to mention, rumors of said coach taking another job can severely impact the program. His name comes up seemingly every year (clearly people want him). What better way to shut those rumors up once and for all?
That's the way I look at it anyway.
