I was thinking about this last night. It's been 10 years and for me the first 6 years were wonderful I would grade Cal's performance an A.The last 4,probably a C.Overall for me,probably a B-.Just want to see what the board thinks. In no way am I advocating getting rid of Cal but I have been coming to this board for over 14 years and it's always interesting to see the varying opinions.

Lol some of you guys expectations are out of this world. Remember the previous coaches who won multiple championships after Rupp? Yeah, me either. I guess UK basketball has been a failure for 50 years

And aside from Rick Pitino who was only here 7 years and started from rock bottom, would you say any of those coaches were “A’s”?

Recruiting: A+
Defensive coaching: A+
Creating a brand: A+
Creating fan excitement: A+
Public Relations: A+
Offensive coaching: C+
Beating teams that we were better than in the tournament: B-

Overall, A-

I hope we have him another 10 years.

I also hope he brings in an assistant that fixes the offensive paradigm.

It’s an A because.

Most wins in decade
Most tournament wins
Most final fours
Most elite 8’s
Most sweet 16’s
Second most conference titles (Kansas)
Second most titles (Vill, Duke)
Most draft picks
Most lottery picks

If that’s a B then damn this is harder than I thought.
Definitely not an A

I think Cal blew an NC or two so I can't give him an A

B+/A- even

Hell of a record, great kids, lots of deep penetration in the NCAAs, Championship, multiple Final Fours.

The B+ is being pissy about yesterday. An A is probably deserved in context.

Those previous coaches never had Cal's insane load of talent! Apples to watermelons!

Cal is fine. Some of y'all are nuts. He just needs to make a "tweak" with his pjilosopjy to maximize results.

Yeah, 4 final fours and a title can't be anything but an A decade. It's certainly not an A+ (second title would put it there), but the 20teens were only slightly less good than the 90s and better than any other 10 year stretch since Rupp was coach.

Solid A. Would be A+ if he had another title, but:

- 7 out of 10 years we have been in title contention (it's called the Elite Eight for a reason)
- 3 of those we made the Final Four and were very close to winning it but the breaks just didn't fall our way
- In 2012, we brought home the whole damn thing

On top of that:
- We are the consensus program of the decade
- As much as people complain about the NBA stuff...the fact is, our presence outside of the college game has never been stronger and that matters
- We were on the brink of becoming Indiana and ultimately, whether he's "underachieved" or not, the man returned us to national prominence overnight and has kept us there for the better part of a decade

Most of all:
- He hasn't embarrassed us in any way and has represented UK possibly better than any coach we've ever had. No scandals, has always recruited the best kids, and he's been a great ambassador for not just the school, but the state in general.

Hope he's here for 10 more. Go Cats.

I always used annoy me how much and how many people used to (and still do) put down Tubby Smith and his time here. But thread has brought me relief.

When I see over 50% of the responders rated Cal something other than an "A" for his entire 10 year tenure at Kentucky, I finally realized just how delusional the fan base is.

What the heck would Rupp get graded? C+ ?

I tend to be one of Cal's biggest critics on here, but why are we having this discussion? It's an A and it's not even close.

Who else would you want here..Pitino and Cal are the only two coaches designed to lead this program in the last 40 years.

The poll would be better if it had ranges of A--, b++, etc.

Since this is UK the curve is high, I would say B or maybe C+ because of the curve, great during the season but comes up short when it really counts.

B-

The last half of the decade has been a stepdown from what we saw prior.

You're just as delusional if you are going to equate Smith and Gillispie.

Sometimes I have to repeat this. During Smith's ten-year tenure Kentucky...
...won an NCAA Title
...won five SEC regular season titles
...won five SEC tournament titles
...had the first ever sweep of the SEC including the tournament
...had a winning record against every other SEC team and OOC rivals Louisville, Indiana and North Carolina
...any many people probably don't realize this one, but during the 2005 season, after 7-1/2 years under Smith, Kentucky achieved the highest all-time winning
percentage it has ever had, .7671. (In other words, Smith successfully built on the all time wins/pct legacy Rupp, Hall and Pitino left and pushed it even higher- hard to include Sutton in there, but you could). Even ten years under Calipari hasn't fully recovered from the Gillispie debacle (though one more year ought to do it)

I voted B. But more precisely, I would say B+.

Yes only 1 title.
But we had a team capable of winning it 6 or 7 of those years. In a OAD tournament, you need luck, and to get hot at the right time also.

He gets an A. NCAAT championship, 4 Final Four appearances, 7 Elite Eight appearances, tons of wins, wins the SEC as often as he doesn't, and a really good record against elite teams/programs and rivals.

The last four years have been a significant drop and I don't know that I'd even give Cal a B for these, but that doesn't take away the sum of what he has accomplished here.
