Probably not. I'm one that believes that they didn't put it in a cast unless it's serious.

My belief as well. They tested it after it happened. They put the walking boot on it to immobilize it because they planned on seeing a specialist after they got the first report because they were referred to do it. The Dr then likely told them whatever he did and that they should go ahead and put a hard cast on it to help it heal quicker. Now, we just need our Cats to last long enough for the injury to heal. Maybe they were told 2 weeks at the earliest. Could be longer. He's young and could heal quicker than expected. Heck he might be able to play through the pain, but just not right now because it's too excruciating. We will know soon enough.

Look, I am a doctor. There are ways to build a shoe/arch and tape his foot in such a way, to minimize movement between the bones. He must have a tear of one or more of his small metatarsal ligaments. This is NOT career threatening. He just needs the right external bracing, and then load him up with pain meds if necessary. No excuse for not playing next week, period.

I don’t think he will and if he does I don’t see him being close to 100%. Pain has a way of taking the fire out of you. Im hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

PJ heard a pop when he came down. Tyler Herro wrote #25 on his wrist tape as a tribute to him for the game today. There have been rumors that he might have a stress fracture. But yeah of course he will be back next weekend. Seriously though PJ I hope you get better.
LOL he has had an X ray and a MRI it is fine ( in terms of injuries ) . I mean you gotta be a moron after they tell what it is to say it isn't that . It is swelling and pain there is no damage to the foot it is sprain.

He will be fine and play on Friday. Having the friday/sun next week is huge but I have zero worries about PJ playing Friday.

Are you sure what they have stated is 100% truthful and accurate? After all, your statement does require that necessary assumption to be factual.

If you're a doctor then you know you can't make a diagnosis of an injury without having all of the diagnostics and having done you own exam let alone know whether he should play. To say there's no excuse for him not playing next week is ridiculous based on your guess at what is wrong and how it should be treated. Are you sure you don't just play a doctor on the internet?

I’m not a doctor but I got kicked out of a Holiday Inn once.

Two pieces of information we’ve been given:

1) it’s a foot sprain;
2) it hurt a lot.

On the basis of that, I’d estimate at the very minimum, best-case scenario, a two-week recuperation. So I think there’s an outside chance he plays in the elite eight if we advance. I’d love for him to play sooner. I would not be surprised if he didn’t play again in this tournament. Again, hope he’s back sooner than I expect.

actually, bungalowbill, you are correct. I cannot make a definitive diagnosis without having examined the patient. I can only go on what I have heard through the media (that all diagnostic studies were negative) and my own experience with similar patients. There we are.

If they put him on the court, he’ll play. If not, then he won’t.

I just hope he realizes that if he tries and doesn’t do well, he get cussed like a dog for not trying hard enough by the same bunch that is dogging him now.

My concern is atrophy. If that cast stays on most of this week, I don't know if he will be able to play next week. And if that's the case, we may have seen the last of PJ at Kentucky. Hope I'm wrong.

Can atrophy set in that quickly in someone so young, healthy and active?

I can just tell you from personal experience, when I was 19 I cut my heel up in a lawnmower. I was not in a immobilizing cast. But it was wrapped up and I was on crutches for 3 weeks with instructions not to put any weight on it until the stitches came out. I literally couldn't walk correctly for 2 days. It was so weak, it wouldn't support my weight. And that was just walking. Forget running and jumping. Now PJ hasn't been off of it that long, so hopefully it won't be that bad. But I don't know if he will be game ready by next weekend. Like I said, hope I am wrong.

A sprained ankle and a sprained foot are two totally different animals. It will be a miracle if he's recovered enough in less than 2 weeks to play after spraining his foot.
