If you had a son that was a 5-Star recruit.

First of all I raise my kids right. They'd go to UK because they're in love with it like I am.

Yes I would nearly force it. You don't let 17 year olds make those kinds of decisions. What a wrong with some of you. Lol. They barely know what what day tomorrow is. I just laugh at the people who day it's their choice. No it's not.

Hmm, I would talk to my son/daughter about the things that concern me and help him/her go through the process, but the last thing I'm going to do as a parent is try to control where he/she can or can't go.
I would want my son/daughter to go where he or she wants to go.

Or I could push him to duke, wear blue lipstick during games, be as vocal as possible, watch my kid get drafted in the lottery after his frosh year, then tell everybody it was a horrible experience and cbb is nothing but a prison and I was lied to. Yeah, I COULD do that.

Hate to tell you but K wouldn’t let him go after just one year unless he gets your kid to move up two years so that he can play immediately. :)

I sure would let my son play basketball at Duke!!!

1.) He would learn humility by losing to UK every year.
2.) I would get to live in a million dollar house.
3.) Probably get a cush job I'm not qualified for nor would I ever have to go to work.
4.) He could get picked in the NBA draft and have low expectations for a long pro career yet still have a degree from Duke that he didn't earn.
5.) If he hangs out with the "Brotherhood" then I wouldn't have to worry about becoming a grandma anytime soon.
6.) It would be unfortunate that he would become a douchebag, but I would be rich.
7.) Then after all that I can complain about Duke treating him like a slave.

[laughing] I'm a selfish *****. It happens. Lol.

I would give him all the advice I could but in the end it would be his choice. Currently I would try my hardest to make him a cat. After the Cats I would go Duke, Kansas , Iowa State and Ohio State. Duke because they are putting players in the league right now and all the perks that come with being a Dukie parent and getting to go to duke games in UK gear sorry jr. All the other places are great deer hunting states with pretty good coaching. Mostly big time programs with an option or two of being a big fish in a small pond.

My personal opinion is player coach relationship is a big deal. That's why I said these would be my recommendations currently. If it were in the future and UK or any school had a Billy Clyde as coach no way I advise my child to go there even if it's UK. Honestly I would advise against most local schools because I don't want to have to look at that schools colors or gear everywhere I go where I live. I know I listed Ohio State but I see a lot of thier stuff here anyway living near the river and all. I live in the Maysville area and when Lofton was at Tennessee I never got so sick of seeing orange in my life. That kid was lights out in Rupp in high school and college. Would like to know his combined averages at Rupp

I mean no disrespect (bc I fall in this category), but this is the epitome of a message board question. We are a bunch of people that range from terrible to pretty athletic, and there is a question about whether or not we would hold back a 5 star offspring from chasing his dreams based on bias toward a certain team. Would I attempt to sway him early? Yes. But after he is elite in high school. One word....................................NO.

1) Louisville: Naturally wouldn't have wanted this even before the hookers
2) Michigan State: Once would have been a great non-UK place I'd want my kid to go to, but obviously not now
3) un-CHEAT: They're a complete embarrassment
4) Auburn: I wouldn't care normally, but since BBQ Pearl is their coach, I wouldn't want my kid around them/him
5) Arizona: No thanks to the shady dealings going on there

Are there any Top 10 type programs that you would not let him play for?

Myself there are several that I would not let my son play for. Kansas, Michigan State, & UNCheats are the main 3 that I would not let my son play for. Kansas & Michigan State because of the crimes that goes on inside those 2 programs. And I certainly would not want a son of mine to play for that crooked, hypocrite Roy Williams at that academic fraud of a university. And before Pitino & Jurich got fired there would be no way that I would have ever permitted a son of mine to play at that filthy crime ridden place. But I believe since Pitino & Jurich got flushed out in the sewer that UofL has cleaned their act up.
You had me until you started talking nicey about u6...

Well, hopefully I’ve raised him right and it’s a no brainer if UK offered!!! However, it would be his decision and I would support him without bias. Doesn’t mean I would pull for the team he is on, just hope he did well personally.

I would encourage him to play away from home so he could have a more normal life and not have his off the court time consumed by fans. Go to a great place to live and experience, use basketball instead of basketball using you.

Not sure how dook is the perceived leader with Cole Anthony given his father’s history with that program. UNLV was the dook antidote.

You may be overestimating Duke grad earnings. Granted it’s a great school, the “Cush” living you describe sounds like it’s acquired moreso by inheritance.

I wouldn’t balk at him going to UCLA. Great campus, academics, great “scenery”. A place to visit for his old man.

I would have a difficult time if he decided to go to UL or IU. But it would be his decision and I would support him.

No.

That is somewhere between silly and counterproductive ... especially in the OAD era. Kid's going to college for a few months.
yep
if my kid was going to be OAD i would tell him to play for the coach that can best prepare you for the NBA

I would want him to go where he fits. I wouldn’t want him in an unsafe place or around bad influences. But, in reality just as it is for these kids today, it’s a business decision. Who needs him and will help him grow and improve? It’s really that simple. I’m a UK fan and that wouldn’t change. At the end of the day though he has to make the best business decision to position himself for his future. Period.

Wow. IMO, a good parent has to be involved in the college decision process. Failing to be involved is failing to be a good parent to me.

Especially if they are a 5 Star and inundated with offers. Hopefully parents can give their kids good advice and the kid can listen. It really should be a family decision with the decision coming down to the kid after the parents help him narrow it down to the best schools for him.
A good parent lets the kid make the decision for themselves. I would give advice but never force the kid to do anything. IMO a good parent lets the kid decide.
Of course I would give my kid advice and help him in any way he needs it but in the end, I would never force him to any school. I think that makes you an awful parent.
There's a huge difference in helping with support and advice and forcing your kids to NOT go to a school or to go to a certain school.

Well I guess I’m a ****** parent. I was involved in helping both my kids decide where they would go to college. Ultimately, they made the choice from schools we all visited and liked.

If they didn’t like a school we marked it off the list. I wouldn’t force them somewhere they didn’t want to go but we did lots of work on making the decision.

Doesn't sound like to me that you "forced" them anywhere.
Sounds like you talked to them and made the best decision and gave them your opinion.

Again, there's a difference in giving them advice and support and forcing them or pushing them to a school.
