Carter would have excelled playing for Cal. He would have been featured much like KAT was during the tourney run. No zone Calipari would have strengthened his defensive perimeter skills. Those comments could help to begin to chip away at the somewhat fake legacy of K developing players. If K did develop any of them, it was the ones who stayed for two or three or four years (hear me Gracie?)

They won't bomb out but this will lose 6-10 games IMO . The team is built extremely poorly . It is almost like K just said I want 3 of the 4 best SF even if one of those SF in more like a PF/C in college due to overweight and that will do it . Yes he has the pg who is good ( but IMO is like the 4th best pg in the class ) but that is it. Bolden is junior and is a project still ( though he will be a pro) and Delaurier is just a ramon Harris type . K has no leadership either. Now he could add 2 grad transfers who are good or something and fix this or get a great sg to reclass or something but as that team is they are not going to win anything . Not the ACC , not the ACCTG and not a title.

This somewhere around the 7th or 8th player who has had a problem with Coach K and Duke in the last 5 years. You can't hide this anymore. Coach K tried his hand at 1AD, but only by lying to them, not building a proper team, recruiting the wrong mindsets, and worst of all, recruiting guys over perfectly capable 5-star players.. It was a failure, and it's all coming to light.

Coach K and Duke are teetering over a ledge right now. They might have already killed their 2019 and 2020 recruiting. I hope Cal smells this blood and buries them for the **** they pulled on us.

but KAT wasnt able to show his full abilities. he needed to share and sacrifice with guys like WCS, the twins, booker, trey, etc. people are taking these comments and running with it too much. every player everywhere feels like they could have done more. unless you are trey young who got to take 25 shots a game.

carter is trying to raise his stock, make more money.

Cal still needs to win games, sure. But he's doing more for his guy's future than Coach K is.. and on numerous fronts. He's making them play like the NBA.. he has yet to push out 5-star talent, simply for the next "big recruit".. he doesn't try and hold them back for another year when it's not needed.

SKJ just wanted a true opportunity at a smaller school. He was a lesser recruit.. Duval and Carter were different animals all together.

It's plain and simple what Carter and Trent were saying. Duke and Coach K didn't prepare them for the NBA draft. This certainly gives UK and Cal an advantage on the recruiting trail.

Yep, and don't forget Bolden, who would have been a top 5 lottery pick if he had gone to UK. Or Luke Kennard, who would have been drafted in the lottery his first year, not his 2nd.

If only Coach K could be like Coach Cal by putting players before program success. I know how much happier that would make me as a Duke alum.

Some posters above do make good points - K seems to be trying to get the highest rated recruits w/o thinking about building a complete team. 100% agree. Just baffling that he took Cam, Barrett, and Zion. Equally baffling how all 3 of them were cool with that.

Actually what he said was that players have to sacrifice their games for the program in CBB and he even alluded to the fact that you face zone defenses, etc...and it's not a shot at Duke as much as trying to promote/sell himself for the upcoming Draft. Every player sacrifices something when you go to a big time program.

Closer to 10 games sound right. They have a high Celing due to having that class but a low floor due to youth. They will take lumps like UK did last year due to the youth and adjusting to the college game

I doubt it makes much difference.

We seen Cal and top UK NBA players all joked together about how Cal held them back .

Yeah but people like Kat AD etc.. Was to much outside game and Cal developed them I to Low Post dominant bigs.Hell Cousins in Highschool liked to be on the 3 point line alot Cal stuck his *** in paint and it worked out for him as well.Cal is way more better at developing players then anyone else in college game hands down period. I can count on 1 hand the puke players that are worth a crap in NBA. I need my First hers and Toes for UK period not even close

Good comparison and a valid point that can be used on recruiting trail. But, not sure Cal uses that tactic like folks at KU and Duke have against him.

Your right but most bigs are not going to be permitted to hoist up a lot of threes by any top coach. I think Villanovas bigs shot a few but Self, Cal, Roy, and K like their big men to play big.I can't blame K or Cal for not letting the bigs act like two guards on the perimeter.

He didn't hear you. But I agree. I can only think of boozer, and Kyrie. Kyrie didn't learn anything at Duke, and boozer was a second round pick that got better in the NBA.

I never understood Ks track record any way. If you compare the talent he gets compared to what that talent does in the NBA, his record is pretty pathetic.

What is ironic is Duke was a MUCH better team when Bagley sat out injured. The offensive movement was very good and Carter obviously played a much bigger role. Bagley was a black hole on offense. I was happy to see him come back. Naturally they tanked in the ACC tournament and didn’t make the final four.

Do you hear Kat and others talk about in a serious matter? no they all say it in a joking tone. Carter and the other Duke players are upset about playing zone and other things that seemed to lower draft stocks.

The duke guys airing out grievances ..... makes me wonder if Capel was nudged out for some reason and the players didnt like it. Most players have little gripes but they dont air it out in public like this.

They had to play zone because they were to slow to play man. When Duke did try man earlier in the season they were getting torched.

Duke sucked at M2M and would probably have lost in the S16 or worse w/o playing zone. As a fan I don't have any problem with the team performing better at the expense of a player's draft position.

I get it from the player's perspective, but it's a team game. And my impression is that Carter was simply saying he can do more, but wasn't asked to do more due to the needs of the team.

Would you really want to draft a guy he thought it was all about him?

Cal openly jokes that every player that played for him says he held them back.

They laugh about it.

Obviously, this is not a joke to the Duke guys like Carter.

You can clearly tell Carter was not happy at all with the zone based on his words.

As a fan we definitely just want our teams to win............ but as a fan of UK I like watched a rival get blasted by its own former players for playing zone because it can help UK on the recruiting trail....... Its what you call trouble in paradise
