You want to kill college BB? Go ahead and boycott.
I agree if you want to kill the sport boycott. Outside of a handful of schools the only time the majority watch the sport is March Madness.
Well we do know one thing, Duke would never boycott with the bracket they get every year
So the cost of a scholarship hasn't gone up? Granted it probably hasn't gone up proportional to the revenue the NCAA brings in every year but the cost of a scholarship is a lot more than it was 10-20 years ago.
Boycott? It's been done to death.
Yeah, this is probably a trick to make they're annual "tip-toe through East bracket" even easier.

Damn.the stuff that the folks at ESPN come up with in light of what we are seeing in college basketball get dumber and more off the wall be the day.The y seem to want to make things worse than they already are.Fine boycott,you can send about 3/4 of the ESPN college basketball staff home cause there will be no interest and nothing to report or talk about.Call off the season after the conference tournaments,now let's see how many at ESPN think there should be a boycott.

That could backfire so badly. As others said, no way Duke or UNC boycotts. But if others did, they could have a cupcake. Can’t let that happen.

I think this is one of the reasons the NCAA has fought so hard to keep agents away from college players. If Agents organize a boycott they can actually bring about real meaningful change. Look at what the Missouri football players accomplished a few years back when they threatened to boycott one regular season game.
By the way, we've already seen one title vacated and I bet there are more on the way with this FBI probe.

Major League baseball pulled this stunt and it didn't work out well. Williams and Jalen Rose calling for boycotts is a reason I would not want either one in college coaching. These types would destroy the sport. If there is a problem you fix it and it starts with the college presidents, ADs and coaches. But if college players decide they want to walk off the court then let college sports suffer the consequences because they will come.

I'm not sure there's a more "thinks he's smart but in reality is clueless" personality in sports than Jay Williams. I'm so sick of this idea that going to Duke makes you intellectually superior.
It’s almost dead now with terrible officiating,NCAA refusing to touch UNCheats for 20 years of fake classes and fake grades whilst taking away basketball that said 500 wins.
Someone should ask Jay why he didn't try and start a boycott while he was in college because this nonsense just didn't start yesterday.
I haven't either. I've watched less college basketball this year than all my other 52 years of life combined. I've even watched some of the UK games on DVR after the game was over or almost over (of course I went to great lengths not to know the outcome before I watched it). But I used to never do that and I'm a Cal fan.
It's not just the UNC stuff, it's also the commentators calling the games and the talking heads at ESPN. I don't enjoy their analysis anymore because it's so opinionated and biased, and sometimes it's just flat out bad analysis. Sometimes I think they've watched less games than I have this year. It's just not as enjoyable as it used to be and it's been trending that way for a while. I don't post on here as much as I used to either. Oh well, you're not alone.

This is BY FAR not the only factor in play, but one reason I think we have seen Duke's recruiting pass us up in the last few years is because of the media. These players generally consume their TV time with ESPN. If ESPN is constantly pushing Duke/ACC (like the Duke commercial they made of that kid going to Duke and then playing with Lebron in Cleveland), they can influence the younger generations to push their agenda. Almost every commentator for college basketball has ties to Duke or the ACC in some way. This is the only area I think Coach K has Coach Cal beat. Flooding the media with former Duke players was by design NOT by coincidence (hence, take care of you for life). Good thing Coach K has no idea how to push the egos aside and lead a team of freshmen to the promise land.

I actually agree with Jay . . . I think WE should all consider a boycott. Last I checked I'm not getting a dime out of it either and Ive been buying tickets, buying what the advertisers are selling, buying the gear at the fan shop, and showing up over and over to create the atmosphere that fuels all the excitement of the product for years. . . If we all stop doing that ourselves, wont that pretty much put an end to the whining and carping about it? Plus it will save the players having to do it themselves so they can concentrate on their classwork and we won 't have to listen to any more self righteous commentators and writers for a while.
Agreed! We're the ones actually paying the revenue for the NCAA. Why shouldn't the fans get a reimbursement for their expenses if the players are getting paid? All kinds of can of worms ready to be let out if they start paying players. We'll continue to see sporting events attendance plummet in the coming years.
This is absurd. ESPN should fire Williams because he is biting the hand that feeds him. Williams is the Dukie that threw away his pro career by riding a motorcycle and destroying himself and his career. I believe he is bitter and jealous over that and wants to ruin college basketball by trying to stir up the majority of college athletes whose careers will end with the NCAA Tournament experience and will never see the light of the NBA.
Nothing is safe anymore. Politics and social activism has peaked it's head into every fabric of society and ESPN promotes it.

Jalen Rose was the first one to suggest a boycott yesterday during his show in the morning. Jay Williams was just agreeinh & echoing what Rose it already said
Thee system is broken and has been for years. So let's say we start paying all NCAA athletes a fixed amount, are we supposed to believe that will fix the cheating and corruption going on? Get real, there will still be corruption behind the scenes paying players because teams will still want to get the best players at any cost.
This is why I just stay home now. Can't go anywhere or do anything without loud mouth ignorant people yelling that this is racist, or this is sexist, or hugging someone in public is sexual harassment, or tear that statue down! Social media is the biggest factor in all of it. It gives every uneducated person on a topic a platform to voice their uneducated opinion. Other ignorants will take that and run with it calling it the truth. Smdh

I totally agree. I love Cal, love our team, but college basketball is not as entertaining as it used to be. A significant part of my lack of interest is that the sport at least made some effort to appear fair until Lance Thomas, UNC, etc. Refs completely taking over big time games is another factor.
How much money does espn make off college sports? How much do the announcers make? These players agree to go to a school. They are not forced. Just sit a year, work out, and join the league the following year.
To me the real problem starts with the agents. they know what they are doing is wrong, but they don't care, they just want the money. the players, who take money from agents, boosters, or whomever are wrong, and they know it. Someone mentioned that a lot of these kids are poor. Well they have been poor for 18 years, what's one more year? No easy answers, but the root of this newest revelation is greed.
