Pretty sure it's popsicles, bub.

If you want to eat your simpleton freezer-aisle popsicles filled with corn syrup and other GMOS & "natural and artificial flavors", by all means steer clear.

I doubt Fayette Mall will suffer too much. They're regular clientele isn't exactly the type of people who usually shop at Arhaus, Brooks Brothers, Draper James, Frye, Whole Foods, Vineyard Vines, etc.

Fayette Mall crushes. Highest sales volume mall in the Commonwealth. It'll be fine.

The Summit will do okay... will be a damn mess for about 6 months, and will probably lose some of their first generation tenants before they figure the market out IMO (high end soft good retail in a secondary market :eyes:). But, a ton of VPD and some decent demographics out that way. Nothing else to do in Lexington.

The place that's in trouble (if it wasn't already) is Lexington Green, they lost like 5 stores.

That being said the Lakeside Live concerts they started last year were a good time.

Retail is in trouble. Absolutely no question. But what The Summit is *trying* to do is what they need/have to do; create some kind of destination/experience for consumers. Now they need people to open their wallets and not just eat $5 popsicles on park benches... we'll see.

On a macro level I think this purge in big boxes is way overdue (obviously). Ridiculously oversupplied in most markets. But I would be careful not to lump them all together... many are doing very well and have shed some necessary overhead. Like anything else, there are winners in this.

There's been a Summit in Birmingham for years. Bayer (the Jewish fella who developed it) decided to do one in Lexington as well after spending time there with ex-UAB provost Eli Capilouto, another Jewish fella.

If you want to know what to expect, ask Clark or me.

(Here's what to expect: your wife will spend a ****-TON of money there. Enjoy.)

-cliff note version:
-recession + serious accident (had an employee flown from berea to uk hospital in a medivac...thankfully he survived) =demise of business. Thankfully im a highly skilled mfer and opportunities presented themselves...working for other folks is not so bad...and a lot less risk.

-wife has been dealing with serious (not terminal) health issues. Mayo clinic and what not. Persevering.

-no booze since November of 2011...dropped 30lbs. I look good.

Trying to remember which of Dana's awful articles that prompted me to respond and get blocked by her. Seems like it came during the 2014 season maybe?

Re: Summitt

I hate Nicholasville Rd and try to avoid it at all costs. I also hate stores. So it's fairly irrelevant to me.

They didn't "lose" them....Lex Green said seek life elsewhere. They are rebranding their selection of stores.

The Summit will be fine for 1-2 yrs and then owners will realize most of Lex doesn't shop at those type of stores on a regular basis. Out goes a couple and something new will take their places.
