So who comes back?

The projected lottery pick for A&M has already said he is coming back. Why can't we catch one of those breaks?

Just being honest here - because we are known for one and done here. Kids come here for that reason. We even have kids who come here that think they are one and done then when they don't "succeed" their first year, they feel they failed so they want to leave for NBA (oversees) because they feel they will be recruited over and never make it because they couldn't do it in one year.

As I said in another post.. it is starting to get annoying.. that not one of these kids can't say "Yeah, another year wouldn't hurt".. not one. I get if you're a top pick.. a lot of risk..

But Gabriel? Even Bam?

We're acting like playing your sophomore year is some failure and an automatic "you're gonna get injured and never play pro ball"..

It really is amazing how every year our fans think that a player projected in the first round will come back. They cam to UK to get drafted, it's very simple.

Cal said 8 are likely leaving. Take it from any of these players. Locks IMO Monk, Bam, Fox. Obviously Hawkins, Willis & Mulder. There's 6. Most likely Briscoe for 7. Anyone's guess on #8, all speculation. Could see Tai & or SKJ transfer. Who knows what to make from those interesting comments Humphries made the week before but I expect he's back. Have to think rationale, what these kids want & what's best for their futures. A certain player isn't going to stay or go just because we want them to come back or someone to transfer. I look at it this way, to save me disappointment, if it's a close call I expect them to leave. Been the norm. A Terrence Jones or Willie Cauley-Stein return isn't the norm.

We have gotten those breaks though. Jones coming back for 2011-2012 and WCS in 2014-2015. I know TJ was not lotto but he was close.

You guys kill me. Take a look at the average NBA roster. Do you realize the Sixers have these guards on their roster: T.J. McConnell, Gerald Henderson, Nik Stauskas, and Sergio Rodriguez. They are almost certainly going to take whichever one of Fox or Monk is available to them unless they get lucky and win the lottery.

The starting center for the first place Boston Celtics is Amir Johnson. His backup is Kelly Olynyk who can't get a rebound to save his life. Bam Adebayo would be a massive improvement to their front court.

Even Briscoe could get drafted in the second round. He is tough, can defend, and is a great rebounder. Again, remember the Celtics took Terry Rozier at #17.

Bam is awesome. If he comes back, wow

Bam is awesome? Is that what we're convincing ourselves of?

Bam was terrible in this tournament. His hands are terrible and we wasted key posesssions feeding him just to see his ball get stuffed in his face or fumble out of his hands. As a sophomore maybe, but as a freshman we needed more than what Bam brought this season.

Monk said post game that the NBA is in no way a for sure decision. Of course it was said in an extremely emotional state, but at least it wasn't like Ball who basically declared in the locker room 5 minutes after he lost.

If we get Briscoe and Bamba, i think we'll have spectacular season.

I said in a post earlier in the week, i am confident that our season will end better next season.

Willis, Hawkins, Mulder - seniors, gone.

Bam, Fox, Monk - first round picks, gone

11 scholarship players, so that leaves:

Briscoe - should return, but that diminishes him. My guess is he leaves
Humphries - noise about a transfer. Hope today encourages him to return.
SKJ - transfer?
Gabriel - ?
Wynyard - ?

Losing 7 of the 11 is, IMO, likely. It's not at all likely, but theoretically possible we could lose all 11. Can you imagine?

Probably won't happen like that but it could,if that happened anywhere you can bet it would be here. You left out Diallo,he could also opt to leave

I agree with you on this. Some of our underclassman guys haven't panned out in the NBA either. I mean, Lamb, Orton, Liggins (Until just this year..and I know he was a Junior but still.), Terrence Jones has bounced around all over the place, Aaron Harrison was in the NBDL last I know of, James Young has almost fallen off the NBA map, WCS has been ehhh at Sacramento, etc...Yes, we have some superstar guys in the NBA..and some really good players in the NBA..but we also have some guys that had no business going to the NBA when they did in terms of skill and being ready to make it into a career.

Briscoe should not go pro, neither should Bam honestly, Hump really shouldn't transfer (He was awesome today), Gabriel has absolutely no business playing professionally yet..yikes.

We will witness really the only downside of the Cal system when Briscoe and Gabriel declare in a few weeks. Cal won't really want either to leave either, but he will support them, just like he did Teague, Goodwin, Liggins, Dakari, and a few others who he told weren't really ready to bolt quite yet.

These guys get swept up with the real OAD players. They're young, and their families are somewhat hopeful about their prospects. Hard to fault them, but they're not ready for the jump and won't get drafted.

Jones came back because of the lockout same as lamb. Our championship is probably in large part due to that very NBA issue.

Yep. Thank God.

We've had a lot of games go our way but we've had some of the worst luck and experiences as well.

2011- NCAA doesn't allow Kanter to play, get hozed on huge calls vs UConn.

2014- WCS goes down to injury, our biggest rim protector, which allows for Napier to drive with no issue.

2015- Poy goes down, the shot clock violation and ensuing flop, Wisc player coming from out of bounds, etc

2017- Got at least 10-12 points taken away and lose on a last second shot where the guy traveled and it doesn't get called.

Four shots at national titles gone on injuries, NCAA decisions and bogus officiating.

Even if it doesn't end better, I expect UK to return a healthy helping of Green, Washington, Richards, Alexander, and possibly even Vanderbilt for a second season. None of those guys screams OAD, and even if some of them surprise, I think about half of them return for a second year. That in itself will be a nice feeling - not losing every effing contributor year after year.

I get if you're top five, you almost have to go but if you're like Bam, I couldn't stomach to end my career like it did today.

Everyone wants to get rich. No one is blaming them for that but where's the competitive spirit inside them? The NBA has no parity. Most of these stars go to teams and don't win **** while just padding stats and making money. I couldn't handle not winning something.

Seriously, look at all of our NBA players. Which one of them are winning playoff series? Doesn't that get old?

What NBA team would even sign Wenyen as FA who didn't get drafted? I'm serious, no offesne to him, but, wtf? I mean if he wants to go to Europe and make 50-75K a year, I mean, cool, I hear his family could really use money, but, seriously?

It's also a massive assumption that there is decent money waiting for him overseas. The world doesn't haven infinite roster spots available, not ones with high salaries.

It does get old. Look at Wall and Boogie - both of them have been pissed the last few years due to their franchise movements.

That said, wouldn't you work for a company that sucked if they paid you tens of millions of dollars? I know I would. Especially when you figure that in someday you can simply sign on somewhere else and chase a real shot at success?

Boogie and company can simply sign on with a franchise in a few years and "chase a ring". In the meantime, they can keep cashing their checks.

I know right. People keep saying how Wenyen can make "up to a million dollars overseas." I'm like what? Huh? lol.

Not every player is meant to be OAD. Coach Cal tells the truth..if you're ready or a lottery pick, he'll tell you to go. If you're not ready though..he'll tell you you're not ready and that you should come back another year and what you need to work/improve on..some guys just don't take his advice sometimes, obviously..and now they're struggling to make NBA rosters, playing in the NBDL, ect..

The money in the NBDL is pretty terrible. You could make that working in the mall. Also overseas isn't so easy as people describe-getting paid on time is a hassle, living in a completely different culture, often sitting the bench (Brandon Jennings hardly played).

No doubt. The annoying part, however, is when UK loses the Teague or Briscoe types - guys whose NBA careers are on life support the moment they make a summer league roster.
Comes with the territory. When those players expected to be drafted after one year come here the likelihood they stay long are slim. The reason we get high profile talent is because of how many we put in the league, even those border line first round guys help.

If Bam doesn't stay and we dont get Bamba AND we dont sign Knox, then expect the same results next year. We need more than one SOLID big guy down low, i mean Willis was playing the 4 for us this year, with Gabriel Tai, Hump, and SKJ all ranked higher than Willis and they could barely sniff the floor. We need guys like that to stay 4 years wait their turn and contribute their Jr. and Sr. years, not leave ebcuase they are not playing. Going somewhere else may give you playing time, but you wont sniff the NBA D-League leaving. We need a PURE SMALL FORWARD like MKG, and at least 2 solid consistent big men, or we wont be winning a title anytime soon.

Just remember. Skal got drafted last year and recently had 32 and 11. Over the last 10 games Skal has been averaging 12 and 6.7.
My thoughts on who the NBA drafts went out the window with Skal.

Think Briscoe and Gabriel have to come back and will. SKJ transfers. We add Bamba , a grad transfer SG and are top 3 preseason.
