Best hire they could have made imo. Miller will do well there. And they were gonna have to offer a high dollar long term deal to anyone they approached to get someone to accept. Not bashing IU but a coach comfortable where he's at isn't gonna risk it for a short term deal. The reward has to be worth the risk. Best they could have reasonably done imo.

It's a sleeping giant with a fanbase that is much more passionate.
They have 5 ships and play in a better conference year in and year out. He would get much more notoriety at IU.

Again, Jeff. I know you relish a good debate.

But IU is a has been.

Could they return to prominence? Sure.

But why on earth would Sean Miller leave a great situation at a premier job to go to IU?

Does he have ties to IU?

Think before you type.

Solid hire, but not one that is going to cause me to lose sleep as a UK fan.

Think he needs to cut his teeth a bit more before you offer him a job that big, especially for those terms, but I suppose all the home run hires turned them down.

Kind of a shame too. I really like Archie and now those idiots are going to ruin him.

Man, *if* Sean Miller were to ever become the UK head coach, talk about a rivalry.

Out of the 2 of us, I'm not the only one that likes a debate.
My comment about Sean was tongue in cheek. You know, big brother, little brother.

Good hire.
I'll bet he is already camped out at Romeo Langford's house . Indiana has excellent HS talent but Crean missed on their last four or 5 Mr. Basketballs. Miller can also recruit Ohio,Illinois and even Michigan effectively. He couldn't do that at Dayton but he got reasonable talent and got a lot out of that talent. God does he need players and lots of them. You cannot win consistently with3 and 4 star talent that Crean attracted..

Well, once we hired this dude named Billy Clyde, so....

When we hired BCG he was one of the hot up and coming coaches. His a&m team beat UL and Pitino in the tourney. We made a mistake and didn't wait long to get rid of him (2 years).

You also have to take into account the resentment most coaches and commentators had toward Kentucky at that time for practically running Tubby off. Remember Vital's unforgivable rant. Most of the coaches who would have been interested in the UK job took at pass at that time.

I'm going to respectfully disagree...although it pains me to say it I think Indiana is still the better job. (1) Although Arizona has tremendous fan support it still is not on the same level as Indiana. Indiana has UK and Kansas level fan support throughout an entire state that adores college basketball Arizona is pro-sports state. Second it doesn't mean as much as it used to with Cal and K dominating recruiting but it still holds true that players prefer to play closer to home when other factors are close to equal between schools and Indiana still produces a CRAP TON of elite homegrown talent. Crean's biggest issue was that he couldn't keep any of those guys in state and Arizona doesn't produce nearly as much elite D-1 talent. Finally Indiana is in the superior conference. The PAC 12 has clearly been the worst power 5 conference the last 20 years and west coast bias is a very real thing. Did anybody hear about Markell Fultz like at all this basketball season compared to Ben Simmons or KAT?? Lonzo got all the pub because of his crazy dad forcing the east coast to pay attention. I hate IU for how they treated our fans at assembly hall in 2012 and don't think they deserve the privilege of hosting UK on campus for a game ever again but I think by a myriad of factors it is the superior job.

I'll just give you exhibit 1:

They had to hire a coach from Dayton.

You might think IU is the better job, but it doesn't appear that coaches agree. Else they would have made a more impressive hire.
