Very German, raised Catholic in a very German river town. Always down with leaving my shoes out for goodies. My Methodist Lexington born and raised wife, however, had never heard of it before moving up here. Smh
While feasts of Saint Nicholas are not observed nationally, cities with strong German influences like Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Evansville, Indiana; Cincinnati, Ohio; Fredericksburg, Texas; Newport News, Virginia; and St. Louis celebrate St. Nick's Day on a scale similar to the German custom.

Irish-Italian catholics didn't really get down with St. Nick's. Few friends did but my eyes were always on the prize.

A 34-year-old woman is dead after she crashed her car in Clay County Monday morning.
Chasity A. Murphy, of Manchester, was traveling south on HWY 421 about 10 a.m. when she lost control of the car, dropped off the roadway, and traveled roughly 100 feet over an embankment before overturning in Big Creek, said Kentucky State Police trooper Lloyd Cochran in a news release. Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clay County coroner.
Murphy’s 9-year-old daughter Mylee was also in the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier that crashed, Cochran said.
“She survived the collision and escaped out of the vehicle, swam across the creek, and climbed up the embankment to try to get help. She later fell asleep until located by the motorist,” Cochran said. “Mylee Murphy was transported to the Manchester Memorial Hospital and later flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries.”
Damn. The nine year old girl was so shaken up by the horrific crash, death of her mother, swim for her life, and climb up a 100' cliff to safety that she took a nap. Half the men in this thread would have drown in the creek. Merry Christmas kid.

I watched the "Crafting a Nation" doc about local brew guys setting up their shops. Not a bad netflix watch. All these dudes preached about the struggle of starting out, times being a bit lean financially, unexpected hiccups, etc... Pretty much every overworked/underpaid sap has a lot of similar issues starting out in a career (to a lesser degree, obvs). Maybe we all shouldve just actually chosen something we enjoy and went into biz for ourselves instead of rat racing our lives away in our current jobs.

-Speaking of Customer Service, Delta has stepped it up. Proud of them from where they were just 5 years ago. Had some delays on the way home, that escalated and ended up being 7-8 hours of delays and temporarily lost luggage. A quick email to the complaint department and boom $400 in vouchers, $446 in cash refunds and 11.5k points added to the account. Damn. Didn't even have to make a phone call. Similar experience last fall.
-Cuse/UConn game was pretty good last night. I mean it was not great BB but those two dislike each other and came down to the wire.
-Ready to get things right tomorrow. I'm sure Cal has all the material necessary to knock those guys down a few notches.
-Work weekend on tap :smiley:. Can not wait. Going to be busy as all get out. Nice excuse to not indulge, drink, stay up late, turn on the games in the background. Perfectly timed.
-First flakes of the season could fall Thursday.
-Men's Warehouse is pretty hard to beat for a couple of middle the road suits/jackets. Still want to pick up a really nice navy suit and a really nice grey suit but $405 yesterday for two solid CK fall/winter sports coats w/heavy tailoring.
-Cuse/UConn game was pretty good last night. I mean it was not great BB but those two dislike each other and came down to the wire.

The Irish had a good base for their food but they neglected to season anything correctly and just threw peas and cabbage on top of everything.
But i'm not gonna get mad at steak pie, guiness stew, bread pudding, etc.... good enough cold weather comfort food.
