Well, I don't want to sound like a pro-duke guy, but I must say: That uncle sounds like a paranoid chip-on-his-shoulder fool in those posts (does he really think coaches needed to stop and pay friendly tribute to every friggin uncle of one of their players?), and it makes me wonder if Derrick might've have the wrong sort of influences in his ear when making this decision.

yeah but kzryzewski cares about him

I really hate Bolden picking Duke. I really do[/B]. The best big men go to Kentucky. It bothers me to no end. Jarret Allen please pick UK. Kentucky fans will appreciate your commitment more than you know.

Perhaps I've been under a rock and not paying attention, But when did Bolden pick Duke?

You hate UK and Cal all you do is spew bad stuff about us on the Duke board so why come over here and act civil? If you dont like UK and Cal stay away from us.

Nobody is that stupid as we can read between the lines about this DT situation. I don't really care but if Cal did the exact same thing the national media would try to crucify him.

Yea, I talk ish, as do you. I don't like you, however, because you don't come to the Duke board with civility, only ignorance. Plenty of good UK fans here, you're just not one of them IMO.

All that said, however, I figured you could understand that scholly count has nothing to do with Thornton. It goes way beyond that.

I'm for considering bringing in Thornton to Kentucky. Let him practice for his transfer year against Fox. Bring him in with the Richards/Petty/Vanderbilt group. UK wanted Thornton before anyway, and I'm so sold on Young being quantifiably better. You could conceivably bring both of them in and let them start together. Cal has played multiple point guards together a few times now, and done it with great success.

Villanova just won a national title with one pure big. UK will have Bam, SKJ, Gabriel, Humphries, Wynyard and Lee. How many bigs do we need?

I rather have Young next year.

I'm open to either, but Thornton was a top 10 kid in a loaded class before reclassifying. A year of practicing against Fox, Monk, and Briscoe would do wonders for the young man.

Plus, it would be otherworldly on a vindication level if he won a national title while at Kentucky.

I'm a Duke fan, I like to talk ish to UK bball and you all, but in reality this transfer stings. I am being somewhat blasted for saying that Jackson isn't a true PG. Duke will be deep and talented, no doubt, but no PG scares me a bit. I also don't like how this has gone down. DT moves up early, then transfers? I don't like it, but am not allowed to question the program, or I am not a real fan.
Come over here and see the light. You've already started off well by getting a "like" from rupp rafters legend and hof poster cut nets. You need to thank him and like everything he posts

Robinson is a walk on who has a scholarship only if one is available. If bolden comes, obviously it won't be available. He is a preferred walk on and he knows his scholarship is contingent. So we have one more available.
"We". What is your position with the team? You an assistant or manager or something?

yet Thorton is leaving because of playing time? If he's the only PG on the roster and as you state Duke clearly needs that and a perimeter defender then you would think his playing time would be limitless. And yet you also state that his dad didn't like the prospects of his playing time. Some things just don't add up here.

I may be off base given that I don't have any insider information and don't know the Thorntons personally, but I think decreased playing time is only part of it. If you wish to believe some of the rumors, Thornton's dad wasn't very happy with the way his son was handled by Coach K this past season. My belief is he either wanted his son to redshirt or be allowed to play 35, 40 minutes a game. In other words, be given the keys to the offense the way Tyus Jones was last year. But Coach K would sometimes have a quick hook with Thornton in games when he'd make mistakes. His dad probably didn't like that and here's the result, an ugly separation. This is as opposed to Brandon Ingram, who was allowed to play through his mistakes and really only got benched when in foul trouble.

Who is on his short list of potential schools?

I don't see any specific schools listed, but Thornton's statement said he wants to transfer somewhere closer to home. With that in mind, I'd think any Pac-12 school and maybe UNLV and Texas among others would be on his short list.

I'm sure Duke will try to dismiss this as a problem player or a guy who was just unhappy, but it's gonna be hard to ignore these tweets.

Bottom line: they talked him into giving up his senior year to help Duke out, but now they're cutting him to sign Bolden. Not exactly a players first program.
Can you send me a message in private? Not sure how to do it on here.. Need to talk about something..

Granted, but they had a team full of shooters. So, who we going to have next year that can hit a shot, other than Willis?

Only reason I prefer Young is that he is possibly a package deal with Porter. If Young also means Porter, then I prefer Young over any other PG prospect out there for that reason.

Bolden is not picking Duke .. His mother is. Has nothing to do with anything else.

I think Monk will end up being fine. Some people on this board didn't think Murray could shoot a month or so into the season. (And no, I don't think Monk will shoot over 40% like Murray.)

I would be ecstatic to add this young man, assuming he wants to be here. For a Duke transfer to find success @ UK would be tremendous on a variety of levels. I would love to be privy to seeing it occur.
The opportunity to practice against Briscoe, Fox, Monk, and Hawkins (intense and strong defender) is a great one. The level of physicality, talent, and athleticism is something that he could not find with another college team. This is a definite reason for Thornton to consider Cal/UK.
UK stands to benefit, as well. We could have a guard with a year in Cal's system (before he's asked to play). Additionally, he's already had a taste of College ball. This is a 5 star, talented, PG that could play alongside a guy like Young (if we land him) or join him in a potentially very dynamic backcourt.
This sounds like a win, win, win scenario. I would think it is easy to see the benefits to Thornton, UK. Also, the "stick it to Duke" potential is tantalizing.

Everyone on here must not be basketball fans. Did anyone have insiders. Every Duke expert or insider was saying he was gone for a month because his family did not like how he was used. They said k told them he want earn playing time and they didn't like how he didn't play much and that Jackson was coming in. Just look at Duke insiders tweet. He wanted to stay and after meeting with family changed his mind

No. The real question should be; why are all these *** *** Duke fans on a UK board pretending to be UK fans, and telling the rest of us what we should and shouldn't think?

Really?

I kind of look at it that DT is trying to show Bolden that dUKe is in turmoil. They will have a lot of guys playing an ISO offense. IT is sad to see an individual so young who did sacrifice his SR year to only be looked over by his program in favor of Allen and Jackson's playing time. Allen returning screwed up the rotation of available guards minutes. One thing I can predict for dUKe is "Too Many Chiefs and not enough braves"...
Good Luck to the young man.

It's no coincidence Duke's recruiting blew up once Capel was hired. Capel does K's dirty work.

K may not lie to players about their PT or negatively recruit against other schools, but I wouldn't put anything past Capel.

I remember reading the Duke boards just a couple of years ago and there fans were fretting about not being able to close out on anyone anymore. That all culminated with the Harrison Barnes recruitment.

They hire Capel and suddenly they can now just cherry pick the Top 2-3 Nike kids every year? And make no mistake, there was really no contest with anyone else for Giles and Tatum.

Capel had a player take money ....... so he must be a cheater

Coach K has been known to shed a few tears in order to try and land a recruit, of course they are probably fake. Do you all remember Patrick Pattterson telling this story.

Interesting coincidence that Capel was visiting Bolden at virtually the same time as all this new broke on Thornton. Maybe they knew there would be blowback and wanted to spin it to their best interest.

There's always one in every crowd. Such an ignorant comment.
There's always one of your type in every crowd as well. How about you let me worry about how and what I post, and you do the same for yourself.

If it bothers you that much, either report it to the mods or shut up and deal with it. Your choice.

I'm sure you are right that it was the plan, but the way you worded it is hilarious. Yeah, kids always "plan" on giving up a scholarship voluntarily. Not saying there is anything wrong with them doing it, but let's not make it seem like this was Robinson's preferred result.
I won't argue against him probably wanting a scholarship and playing time. But I'm fairly certain Duke was his only D1 offer, at least according to Rivals:
