Brutal in what way? Stallings is an absolute hell of a coach! I think it's a home run hire for Pitt!

Is this a joke? How many coaches that can be called a "hell of a coach" have ZERO Final Fours or Elite 8s? His career winning percentage is .617. .601 in a weak SEC. Put down the pipe dude.

Wow. PA schools like stealing Vandy coaches. Who knows, with easier academic restrictions, maybe he recruits better. How many Candy dudes are in the league?? Not like he has been flush with talent. I think he is good coach and it's a good move for Pitt

You don't have to get pissed because someone doesn't share the same opinion as you. I think he's a great coach....there's a reason he was the longest tenured coach in the league.

Because Vandy simply doesnt care.

did they ask Archie?

Definitely have to think they asked him and Sean Miller. Or at the very least, called to see if they were interested. Neither guy was interested, though.

Stallings is an interesting hire if he does indeed accept the job. He'll have nicer facilities to recruit to in Pittsburgh, but the ACC is a better conference and Pitt is more of a middle of the road job in the conference rather than a top of the line job. Granted he should be able to recruit better than Jamie Dixon did the last couple of years. He's not a bad coach, but I see him as maybe a slight upgrade over what they had in Jamie Dixon.

Vandy needs to hire UTC's Matt McCall. He's just got one year of college coaching experience, but it was a good one. They won't do any better.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Barbee's name come up as a candidate.

This just seems like a weird hire. Yeah, he's been at Vandy for a while, but his coaching career is what I'd call "fools gold". He seems to builds a team for three years in hopes of doing something that fourth year. No one ever focuses on the three in between years and this year was a miserable failure for that model.

I don't get the hire

So who does Vandy get? Like Stallings or hate him, this will set Vandy back several years. I don't see them spending the money on a good coach.

Think Rothstein and a couple other national guys were speculating they'd go after Will Wade at VCU. Did a good job VCU this year given how much they lost when Shaka left but he's still largely unproven.. would be a risky hire with upside.

Stallings will not be hampered at Pitt academic wise like he was at Vandy. He got under the radar talent in Nashville. He could do pretty well at Pitt, but he is in the toughest league in the country (ACC) NO doubt about it !

Better opportunity because of Vandy's academic standards, but in a tougher conference. I'm not surprised though. I think he saw the writing on the wall after a disappointing year where he did have talent. Who will Vandy hire? Maybe they should go after Amaker. He's done fairly well at a school that, unless I'm mistaken, doesn't even offer scholarships to basketball players.

Ummmm, you serious, Clark?

If this goes down, Vandy looks pretty smooth to fire a coach and get another school to pay his buyout.

Nicer facilities?

People are so ignorant.

Lol - amazingly bad take.

VU pays top 15 in the country. We'll pay and we will pay well.

Now, it may set us back depending on who we hire, but this was the right time to get rid of Stallings. He ruined this year and after 3 straight tourney misses, Stallings created a very toxic environment.

It's sad, but this is a best case scenario (5 million dollar swing on buyout (2.5 we pay if it's a fire, if Pitt hires, they pay us 2.5).

You've been to the ncaa tournament 14 times. Half of those were under Stallings. This was Vandys golden age. Hope you enjoyed it. You guys will never find a coach who has that much success there.

I don't get what one has to do with the other.
He said 2 weeks ago that it appeared Stallings was going to be fired but now he's moving up to a better program.
You are talking about his buyout. WGAF about the buyout?

Will Wade is a good target imo. He's young, spent 4 yrs under Shaka Smart, then turned around a disaster of a program at Chattanooga in two years, then took VCU to the round of 32 in his first year there.

If we go after him, I like it. Great recruiter and would lock down this state.

You may be right, but it was time for Stallings to move on. He created a very toxic situation there this year.

7 NCAA Tourneys in 17 years is ok, but not great.

You should google NCAAT prior to expansion, it would probably help you understand why VU had so few NCAAT appearances (hint, we played in the same league as UK).

Hilarious, you've been knocking everyone's comments but you have been wrong all year. You are wearing commodore glasses, you think Vandy is some great program but they are not what you think they are. Top 15??? How do you figure that? What did that program do to make you think they are top 15?
But still, you should start realizing that Vandy is what it is and they will never be what you want them to be.
You might as well buy a blue T-shirt and join the BBN. There's a spot for you in the back somewhere.

He'd done all he could at Vandy.

After a certain point you can either wear out your welcome and get stale, or you can bounce for another gig.

Honestly think coaches should bounce more often...after 10 years or so if you haven't done something significant...let the program move on and you can do the same.

Time for Fox to roll out as well. He may be a great guy, well respected, and even a good coach but it simply isn't shaking out in UGA.

Vandy has never had a coach that "locked down the state" recruiting wise. If there is a worthy player UK, UT or Memphis usually gets them.
