Fox
Monk
Willis
Gabriel
Bam

^ that's my preferred starting 5 next year to *begin* the year. If Briscoe is back, take out Gabriel and slide Willis to the 4.

Plenty of minutes left for Gabriel, Lee, SKJ/Izak, Matthews.

Exactly. Gabriel is the big question mark for me as far as not knowing just how good he'll be or how quickly his game will translate.

We should be a terror defensively and in transition. You'd think we can shoot but I think you're right to wait and see on the freshmen.

We don't need 5 athletic freaks in there...I think Willis will prove to be just as important to the offensive flow next year as he was this year -- if he gets a chance, of course.

I mean, where TF does Bolden even fit in? He'll make about 8 true 'big men' on the damn team. HOW ABOUT A SHOOTER?

As bad as Saturday was with all of our mistakes and frontcourt debacle, if we just hit some easy shots we win. They just kept piling up.

-Ulis and Murray missing their first ft attempt. Willis missing a front end. Those are the guys we want at the line missing out on 4 pts.

-Poythress missing around 4 layups in the first half. Hit 2 of those and that's 4 more pts.

- Ulis missing 2 mid range jumpers from each wing that he usually drains. Hit one and there's another 2 pts.

-Skal missing 2 baby hooks that he's been converting lately. Hit one and there's 2 more points.

-Ulis missing 2 wide open wing 3s (should've drove on both) that he usually hits. Make one and that's 3 points.

-Lee missing a point blank shot. I know he does this often but if he dunks it then there's 2 more points.

Right there is 17 points we left on the table and that's assuming we miss some of those. I didn't even include Murray's misses. IU had more energy. We played dumb. Our frontcourt pussed out. Yet we still would have won handily if we just hit some shots. And most of the ones I mentioned were open looks. It's hard for me to put that on Cal. We had the looks.

Yeah, I really don't get the necessity of Bolden. The biggest thing would be keeping him from Duke. That's all we need is to give Cal an excuse to go with 3 bigs in the frontcourt at all times.

Agree with the idea of Willis starting. He's a legit 6'9". There's at least one player on every college team in America he can check if he is the weak link on defense. Nobody else is going to have five athletic freaks who can score on the court at all times. Not even Duke. Everyone will have someone that Willis can guard. Now if it turns out Monk and Fox can hit 3's at a 35-40% clip each, then he may not be necessary, but it is good to know that we have a pure shooter in our pocket in the event of West Virginia 2010.

And the idea of Briscoe and Lee entering the draft is f'n ridiculous. I'm sure they'll "test the waters" and Cal will encourage everyone down to Dillon Pulliam to do so, but give me a break. Those guys do not have a decision to make. No one is drafting either in 2016.

Getting Bolden is just preventing someone else from getting him. Like getting Willis was to keep UL from getting him*.

*Even though he will probably transfer to UL for next year.

With Bolden some of you are forgetting that even when we're stacked in the frontcourt our best big man is always going to have two fouls by the 12 minute mark of the first half. We need Bolden for that SEC road life.

Also, I think he's got the best back-to-the-basket game in this year's class. Bam is talented as hell but if we've got to post up a big man to back his man down, make a move, and get a two down the stretch, it's Bolden all day.

I love Briscoe, but what in gods name would any NBA GM see in him? He can play pesky defense against smaller point guards, and...

?

I don't get it either. Right now he is a poor man's Roosevelt Jones- essentially an undersized PF. Those guys can be valuable in college and I really hope to have Briscoe's D, playmaking and leadership back, but I don't in the least understand his pro prospects right now.

Yep, and he is a great shot blocker as well. It would be a huge addition to our team and chances next year to add the best center in this years class and 6'10 250 worth of beef.

Its really going to suck when Duke repeats and then brings everyone back but Plumlee and Ingram.

Considering this year we were begging for a big man to give us anything, I'll take the best one in the class and deal with the log jam. You know he's going to go big again. I think SKJ will get buried a bit, which is fine. Let Bolden, Bam and Gabriel rotate down low.

I mean loading up with ridiculous players on top of other ridiculous players gave us a juggernaut the likes of which college basketball has never seen before, nearly running the table, beating other top ten teams sometimes by 20-30 points, and going into the tournament as an overwhelming favorite, but at the end they lost a game and we didn't get #9 so I say we don't try that anymore. Back to the old drawing board lol.

I definitely want Bolden if we can get him...just wish we'd mixed in a shooter somewhere. Do we really need Tai Wynyard?

Christ, so I just looked at the box score. Shouldn't have done that. We blocked 15 shots Thursday and these p*****s only blocked 2 on Saturday.

10 turnovers from our guards didn't help either.

So has anyone found the WKU sex video ? Supposedly it was three players and a student. But there has to be more than that for the head coach to quit. The Little General will take any and all of the guys YOU do not feel need to be at UK. Chuck, Marcus, hell Willis, come on down and play for the General if you are not wanted. Maybe switch WKU from being Louisville South to Lexington South.

It sucks we got bounced early, but if you are being really honest with yourself, most here are very knowledgeable, you knew it was coming. It hurts, but not missing the greatest sporting event because a group of 18-20 year olds didn't fulfill my fantasy thru them and win it all. Like a few pointed out, it is hard as hell to win it all when you have the BEST team (UK 2015, UNLV 91, Houston with Phi Slamma Jamma), almost impossible when you are borderline top 20 and a 60% of your lineup is flawed..

Of course not. Never did, and I still have no clue why Cal recruited him. I feel like he might've accidentally done it. Like maybe he misheard someone he really trusts, and then couldn't go back on it once he'd offered him.

Cal: You ever hear of Tai Wynyard? A guy down at Wheeler's went on a trip to New Zealand and won't shut up about him.

Trusted Advisor: Yeah, Tai Wynyard is a Pee Wee Anthony Davis. You gotta pass on this kid.

Cal heard: Yeah, Tai Wynyard is the Kiwi Anthony Davis. You gotta act fast on this kid.

We would still have a ride available. If my math is correct. He likely won't contribute for a year or two but let him develop an be a monster in '18. Mulder was brought in to shoot, he can't do that, I'm looking there first. At least Tai is young and built like a fortress.

I'm in the camp that I don't trust Monk/Fox shooting. Everything else, yes. Willis is going to HAVE to play next season. Hope he's serious about the off-season as he said.

Willis such an odd kid. For one, I don't know if he even likes basketball. Secondly, he actually is completely honest and sincere with the media.

Yeah, because that's Cal's MO. Just throw scholarships away on unknown/unseen prospects. Has a Billy G like record if you ask me.

From Bozo:

Tom Crean = Kentucky’s Kryptonite

Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean will turn 50 Friday when the Hoosiers play North Carolina in the East Regional semifinals in Philadelphia. He’s won 338 games during 17 seasons as a head coach at Marquette and IU.

He’s also knocked Kentucky out of the NCAA Tournament as many times as any coach in history.

More than Dean Smith. More than Tom Izzo. More than Jim Calhoun. More than Gary Williams. Those Hall of Famers (Izzo should be inducted this year) have done it twice.

Crean got his three-peat Saturday in Des Moines, matching the three NCAA Tournament victories over UK that Fred Taylor scored at Ohio State during the Sixties.

I would argue the three biggest and most unforgettable wins of Crean’s career have come against Kentucky.

That would be (in order) the Dwyane Wade/Marquette victory in the 2003 regional in Minneapolis; the Christian Watford Shot victory at Assembly Hall in December 2011 and the 73-67 victory over the Wildcats Saturday in Des Moines.

Add his 2008 victory over the Wildcats in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and Crean has eliminated UK teams coached by Tubby Smith (2003), Billy Gillispie (2008) and John Calipari (2016).

Next year's team should be a non-stop attacking force that shoots no more than 10 threes a game. Improved rebounding, defense, toughness, and athleticism is what we desperately need. I think Willis will be a good enough shooter to keep teams honest.
