St. Patrick's Day randoms...

*We've traced our surname back a good way and found 3 different spellings, Clark, Clarke, and O'Cleirich. My grandparents and generations before celebrate being Irish quite a bit, but my dad never seemed to really make of it one way or another. I took interest in it more later in life, mainly bc of ancestry.com and getting stuck spending literally days browsing through that site.

*My sister takes off work to avoid the Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade crowds. Described as local townies using it as an excuse to harass tourist or families- a lot of folks opt to stay away these days. She compared it to a much less diverse Thunder over Louisville crowd.

*Best Irish tunes:
Carrickfergus
Whiskey in the Jar
Fields of Athenry

*Off from work tomorrow but have a 4 hour dissertation meeting scheduled. Should be finished after lunch to catch the bulk of the action.

*Just two more weeks on this job for me. Only one interview lined up, so my level of anxiety is pretty awful right now. havent slept without medication for a couple of weeks which has caught up to me and then some. A deep tourney run would really ease my mind.

*Adam LaRoche hanging it up bc the White Sox told him to cut back on the time his kid is in the clubhouse... which was apparently all day every day. Huh? Why is that not a reasonable request? Bring your kid in every now and then so he can shag a few balls and then go tell his friends about it- but every day, sorry bud.

*Des Moines means "of the Monks" so take that however you will regarding our time up there.

Granted I don't know LaRoche's side of the story, but sounds like a pretty silly reason to leave $13M on the table.

With that said, I sat on the bench of my dad's softball games every game.

Oh, it's still St. Patrick's day eh? [eyeroll]

Curmudgeon take, but it just gets on my damn nerves. I'll give you actual St. Patrick's Day, and the closest Saturday to it, but enough with the month long ******** for a "holiday" that doesn't even really exist for 99% of "hardcore" participants.

I'm wearing Blue today in protest.

Sure- and I tagged along when my dad was coaching high school baseball... but both of those scenarios are vastly different. Even if most of the other players were cool with it- the GM asked him to scale it back, not remove the kid completely.

Surely there was something else going on that irked Laroche. It's whatever- he wasnt worth the salary by any means.

I know it's different. I was kidding with the softball take.

Laroche barely hit .200 last season, and now he's got the audacity to tell the Pale Hose how to run their clubhouse?? False. Hit the bricks, pal.

Rank these in order:
kick rocks
hit the bricks
take a hike
pound sand

Most annoying space on the planet: the 2-foot diameter in front of the condiment station at Starbucks. Pick it, old lady. How much half and half do you need? And why are you still stirring??!

What a glorious day. This is where the tide begins to turn on a new year. Winter becomes spring. Warm days and cool evenings. 3 weeks of non stop hardcourt action. The blooming azaleas of Augusta. Spring Training and Opening Day. Keeneland. It all starts now. Shew wee.

Got a severe pat down by TSA this morning. On their video screen there was a blinking orb around my crotch, and they specifically checked that area for contraband. I was pulling a semi by the time the heavy set brother finished inspection. One more pass thru and he'd have sworn there was metal in there. Hash tag embarrassed.

Partying with abh = gasoline on the fire. Actually, it's like taking that firework store in Jellico and tossing it in a fire. With some napalm and a nuke. Jealous. Please send video.

I have a hunch that Tyler Ulis becomes a full blown legend this March. He's built for this. Too short? 4 year player??

"yeah, i was tired of hearin that ****, too."

I've had to bring my kids to work a few times because of stupid snow days and no child care and it's fun for a few hours. Then you get tired of not being able to swear and you're ready for the kids to leave.

The fact that it's extremely possible they ***** out this afternoon has to make that Wilmington +10 number extra tasty.

Hard not to just hold your nose and jump on all double digit dogs (12) over the first two days, really.

Somehow I signed up for Groupon Wichita notifications. For some reason I look at them and have not changed that setting. Weird.

We are up to 86 brackets. Jump in everyone who hasn't. And thanks to those who have and who have paid. I've got the spreadsheet going so I'll be hunting you down at some point. Who is Saltlife Rooster? And Denzll Toxell?

Richie, you participate in the $193,000.00 Calcutta at the Pendennis Club last night?

"Saltlife Rooster" has to be Dr. Boat's alias for marinas from which he's been banned for life.

Heads Up: You filled out a bracket with the wrong email, Doc.

He walked in on them having sex, Doc.

I figured.

So what is the play here? Do you:

A) Yell to go to their room, and finish.
B) Stop what you're doing and have "the talk" about birds and bees
C) Downplay what was going on, "we were just wrestling"
D) Just pretend it never happened, tell him he was having a bad dream.

In my experience, it's separate immediately and break the speed of sound covering up. Then act confused and like you don't understand what they're talking about when they ask what you were doing, and tell them to go back to bed. There's a bit of Jedi mind trick to it.

And pray the lights weren't on.

Yeah I guess a lot has to do with the scene of the crime.

Under the sheets and in the dark-pretty easy to cover up. Some of the more exciting positions, be a bit harder to explain.

Maybe go with doing yoga?

Thank goodness the lights were off. But that kid is crazy stealthy. Could've been there for 10 seconds. Could've been there for a minute.

It all worked out, but I'm waiting for the inevitable "What were you doing to mommy" question in the next few days.

I thought kids these days knew about that from about age 5 on?

He's 11, think you're probably underestimating his intelligence or what he hears at school. I don't have kids, but my mom taught 2nd grade for 35 years...and her stories indicate kids are about 2000% further along that I was at that age.

Not suggesting they "understand" completely (or at all), but I'd guess most 11 year old boys have heard of SEX. That's 6th grade/middle school, right? Pretty sure I was wekking by then.
