Basketball is about the only Olympic sport I care about. Why should I care about track for 6 weeks when I completely ignored it the preceding 46.5 months? You can insert pretty much every other Olympic sport into that last sentence and it would remain true for me. Same thing with the World Cup. I don't watch soccer any other time. I'm not going to pretend to give a damn just because everybody else is doing it.

-The Olympics is great television at a time of year when there's just not much going on. CFB/NFL haven't started yet, dog days of baseball season, quiet on the CBB front. Love the parade of nations for some reason. Most annoying thing=people who watch these events once every four years, but are suddenly experts on it.

Question I have during every Olympics....these people who are analysts for the lesser-known Olympic events....what in the world do they do during the four years in between Olympics? Would love to know what a Table Tennis analyst does. I'm sure they're a legend in their field, whatever it is.

-One bracket. Grow some stones, multiple-bracket weirdos(unless it's for charity).

-We could've done better than Nantz/Raftery/Hill, but at least it's not the Len Elmore or Steve Lappas crews. Brian Anderson/Steve Smith is a really solid team, and I hope they're in Philly.

Kevin Harlan's voice IS the tournament to me, especially now that Gus is out. Also love it when Tommy Tighe's voice comes on the Westwood One tournament radio broadcasts.

* I'm competing in a head to head, loser buys pizza bracket with a buddy of mine and he has every #1 seed except UNC going down in round 2, which makes me wonder which of the #1 seeds you guys think is most susceptible to the round 2 upset. Virginia just goes through so many long stretches where they can't score that I don't really understand how their offensive metrics are always so good. I also saw Oregon blow a 4-point lead with 3 seconds to go against Arizona in the Pac-12 semifinals, which is ludicrous, even though they dominated the overtime.

Good question.

Would it really be shocking to see Colorado or UConn upset Kansas? I know every year is different but jeez, I have watched so many stacked Kansas teams inexplicably gargle balls in the NCAA through the years that nothing would surprise me.

UNC's playing awesome, but Kris Dunn is a legit Top 8 pick and experienced.

Butler and Virginia will be a rock fight. Never know with those kinds of 58-56 games.

Haven't caught any St. Joes games this year, so no idea how they would play Oregon.

^Yeah I just finished the episode before what I assume is a big curve. Maybe not best that I watched it right after "Love" which was fantastic.

If you liked "Love," I think you'd really like "You're The Worst" from FX. It's only two seasons in so you could watch it fairly quickly. Pretty funny.

Answer the damn question, Chad. Christ. Take a stand, man!

I'll say Oregon, BKH34. That's my answer.

Meanwhile, back in the offices at Assembly Hall...

"6AM, day after Christmas. Throw some clothes on in the dark. Smell of cold. Car seat is freezing... She's a brick and i'm drowning slowly..."

Easily my favorite sad song, followed by "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Keith Whitley and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by the Possum.

Said it before, but Ben Bentil is the most underrated/unknown 'star' in college basketball, at least to the casual fan. Kid is averaging 21 & 8 on the SEASON.

He laid an egg vs Nova in the Big East Tourney, but his previous run games before that? 38, 23, 27, 28, 31, 16, 17, 42.

Providence is far from a one man show.

Thinking about making a nice post about Westwood One's NCAAT basketball coverage, but don't want chad to be mad at me for this entire tournament fun.

Providence is a scary second round opponent. They're not a big name team that struggled and was punished. They are a mid-tier team that did not win their league tournament. They also have a guy who can go D-Wade on a superior team and pull off an upset. That said, I still think UNC takes care of business, but I'd rather be staring at some team with high expectations who under performed if I were a UNC fan.

All the reasons why they'll lay an egg in round one.

May I suggest Paypal or Amazon Payments....which 99% of people have?

* Kentucky has won 13 NCAA Tournament games in a row against lower seeds. Bodes well for getting to the 2nd weekend.

* Dauster on a potential UK-IU matchup: "If they play, Kentucky will win by 15."

* Was thinking a Michigan State title could vault them past UofL all the all-time programs list, but MSU is only 30th in all-time wins. Yeesh.

* Rack whoever called out radio hosts for saying "I'm not saying they're gonna win, but watch (trendy 12 seed) over (5 seed)!"

When 12 seed wins: "I called it! Din't I? Din't I"

When 5 seed wins: "I didn't say they were gonna win!"

Going to be in Chicago with the lass this weekend seeing her sister and my sister & bro in law.

Pequod's on Friday night. Can't stop thinking about the caramelized crust.

Going to try to get a table at The Pony on Saturday for the game. Will have to get there a few hours before tip to secure one.

"You have your dorm security people, who are being interviewed by the NCAA, then you have your graduate assistants. One unfortunate one was Andre McGee, whose sole responsibility was to make sure the kids get to school on time, make sure they get up in the mornings when they have a presentation or breakfast with a head coach or family," Pitino said.

"And then we have another graduate assistant. So the problem we had, is we did have people in place. And the one person we did have in place, whose sole responsibility was to make sure they do the right things, and unfortunately that was Andre McGee. That was the problem there."

[laughing]

That SOB is shameless.

If he keeps talking McGee might just decide the hush money isn't worth it, and start singing.

Good Lord that would be glorious.

Lack of Institutional Control centers on if there were adequate policies and procedures in place for an institution to comply with NCAA rules, and if those steps were being monitored and enforced by designated individuals at the time of a violation. A failure to monitor occurs when those policies and procedures are in place to comply with NCAA rules, but the institution failed to fully monitor specific areas of the program for limited periods of time.

You don't ever want to piss off a black man with absolutely nothing to lose.

He doesn't have to speak to the NCAA but if he does who cares? He's not coaching at the NCAA level ever again. Pitino may want to shut up.

"That was the problem there.".

Is this phrase the most awkward but telling ever? Not just from Pitino but in general. It's just the white flag any time you hear someone say, "well that was the problem with that."

**Yeah, it's awesome that Pitino is still yapping. Loving it. Obvious that he's just not going to listen to the boss.

Swimming is the best Olympic sport. Its fast paced but not so fast that a race is over in 10 seconds meaning mid race drama and moves can take place in dramatic fashion for all to see in real time. That relay where the US caught the French team on the last leg was incredible. It is always one of the first sports to go in the Olympics and my interest wanes after it is over.
