I can't understand how this is not a violation, it's the very definition of impermissible benefits!!!! It's no different if he went to a jewelery store and bought 2K worth of jewelry. No other teams are getting Championship rings without winning a championship.
I think this is something Rick did on his own without consulting compliance, there's no way they sign off on an obvious violation.. If he did so, it tells me that A) either he is basically sticking it to Jurich Ramsey & UofL on his way out. B) Rick knows that the coming NCAA penalties are so severe that this violation would be a drop in the bucket.

Someone tell me what the hell I'm missing here and how this is an allowed benefit. If it is then Tyler should get a ring if he breaks John Walls assist record......absolutely no difference.

what're you? new to life?
of course he did.

that whole thing, with the rings, and the one shining moment, and the most compliant mafia family nonsense... is anybody really surprised that happened? i mean... the board of trustees meeting turning into Attitude Era WWE, that was unexpected and hilarious, but you could say that basketball program did ANYthing and I'd believe it without question.

unless that thing you said they did was on the level. no chance i believe that.

I don't know the rule on the rings, but if it's impermissible then Clappy and IU are guilty for the Sweet 16 rings too

After Pitino has spent so much time trying to save his reputation by throwing McGee under the bus, how awesome would it be if McGee broke his silence and returned favor? Hey Rick, Andre didn't set up the first party, the guy at the barber shop did. And someone called Andre AFTER HE LEFT YOUR PROGRAM to set something else up with one of her girls. Why is no one challenging U of L's "This is all on one guy" defense?

I guess the third senior didn't get a ring because he is transferring to EKU to play and would have had to repay the among of the ring to be eligible.

They had a painter come out at half time and he painted portraits (one of those fast painting dudes) of Lee and Lewis. People were actually crying. Seriously. You just cant make this up.

Isn't this impermissible benefit?

It aint like they won em..they were a gift

This is a legitimate question. I assume these aren't Cracker Jack box rejects so they have some value. What are the NCAA rules/parameters on rings? Does the team HAVE to be champions of something to qualify for rings?

I'm a little torn on this. If, as a UK fan, the school decided to do something like this for a beloved senior, I can't 100% say that I would not support it.

But...I realize that everyone else in the nation would crush us for doing it regardless of what we thought, so I think UL has earned the ridicule [roll]

Matt says Pitino is like Trump.......hardly. I think he's dead on Hillary/Bill level. He tells everyone he'll coach these guys for free, and change all their lives and bring them together. Then, he leaves for an early vacation to Miami and celebrates the '96 champs with a 'private' party.

And if we're voting, I want Pitino to stay, because there's more to come from how he oversees a program.

They also had paintings of Lee and Lewis to hang in the Yum. Maybe the City will evict UL and they can pull them out of the dumpster.

For those that live in Louisville, you'll understand this...Is Louisville going to hang banners from some building that says "Lee and Lewis' Louisville"?

This whole ring/one shining moment display was nothing but Kabuki theater. Rick was reminding the fans one more time how Jurich and Ramsey screwed over "the kids". Bet those two gritted their teeth through the whole thing.

All this phony BS over a prostitution scandal. You'd think this was one of those E60 stories where the two players lost their families in a plane crash or something. They both ditched their former schools for a chance to play for a coach who already had one sex scandal. What about the teams in 2013 who didn't get recruits using hookers and lost to Louisville (and its hacking style) in the tournament?

You can give rings for championships up to a certain value. I would say this is a violation, but that's impossible since UL is the most compliant program.

You are right. They disgraced the game and cheated every team they played for at least 4 years and maybe longer. Vacating every win wouldn't be punishment enough.
