we've had some advantages that were big against mid majors.... teams that were so out classed they literally had to foul just to keep us from dunking it every time

But I can't remember a game against a power 5 conference team with officiating in our favor like this.

The three hardest venues in College basketball is Rupp arena, Allen Fieldhouse, and Cameron indoor, in particular order.

But getting a 47-22 discrepancy in free throws is an automatic loss at any one of those places, period. By my count, it was the second most free throws ever attempted by the opponent and second most in disparity in the entire history of Kentucky basketball.

I can only find the Tennessee game in 92 (59-33) or the Vandy game as close (in 93 in nashville, 43-19 free throws)

Just truly astounding. SMDH. And to still think we had our chances to pull this one out. It would be long over at Knoxville or Nashville in miserable gymnasium getting outshot like that.

food for thought.

The refs did not cost UK this game. We had a chance to win at the end of regulation and had a miscue. Our bigs had a hard time defending without fouling tonight. I know it's tough to lose a close game we had a chance to win but you really make yourself look petty when you whine about the officials. It was a great game and we saw that the Cats have a great chance to be right there at the end in march. GBB!

I agree with your post but it's absolutely hilarious that ACCCard liked your post. I couldn't put a like next to that Tard fan. They're the whiniest bunch of college basketball fans EVER! It just struck me as hilarious that he had the nerve and the audacity to put a like on that post.

Just because there's a disparity in free throws doesn't mean anything.

Do people ever on this board say ANYTHING about the refs when UK has the huge disparity in their favor?

I wish the blaming ref people would at least be consistent.

So if it's 50-20 in KU's favor = refs fault.
If it's 50-20 in UK's favor = refs are fine.

Disparity means nothing. But if your gonna point to it as evidence the refs are for certain teams then do the same exact thing when it's in our favor too.
I agree.

But by my estimation, refs were 65-70% in our favor for the first half, then maybe 85-90% in KU's favor in second half/OT. Net effect obviously favors them.

And note I'm not talking about I'm percentage of calls. My idea of a "50/50" or evenly called game does not necessarily entail the same number of fouls on each team - just how frequently does the ref deviate from the perceived correct call by a neutral observer watching on TV.

Obviously, I am not a neutral observer, so my numbers could be totally jacked up. But I also know that for a team as athletic as ours, that's a pretty outrageous free throw disparity, and the imbalance there roughly matches the imbalance I perceived on the court.

After how this team played tonight in this environment and what this team had to deal with. I have no fears on playing on the road the rest of the year. I couldn't say this a few weeks ago.

Lol...I'm not a Louisville fan, cracks me up every time someone points something out that goes against the grain, they aren't a cats fan. In the first half when Ty was driving the ball to the hoop, they fouled. In the second half, when Self had mason drive every time to the hoop, we started fouling.some were questionable, but we got some questionable calls , too. So next year, when they come in and we have the free throw disparity, which we will, do they get to say it was all the refs when they lose. I saw two pretty good teams tonight playing hard with a lot of guts shown on both sides. Ty was awesome, so was Seldon

I watched the first half by myself at one bar, with sound: Honestly, I think the fouls could have been much worse. Kansas definitely didn't get the home cooking you'd normally see.. but in fairness, it was no different than what we've gotten at home all year.

2nd ha;f was at another bar with 7 friends, and no sound. I could barely watch as my ear was yakked off (I don't know why I do this..): But it seemed to me the home officiating definitely came out. Lots of ticky tack fouls. And the overtime was just a travesty. Had that been a triple OT game, we'd have run out of players..

We actually did get a favorable whistle in the first half. I told my brother that, but I also told him they would more than make up for it in the second half, because I knew it was coming.

I don't agree with this because you are insinuating that they are cheating for Kansas and was going to "make up" for 1st half calls. That is where fans make the mistake when complaining about the officiating. There is no cheating going on. They don't go in the locker room at halftime and say....." Ok, We have to even these calls up and make sure KU gets to the FT line a lot more in the 2nd half. We need to start making up calls against UK". That's not the problem with the officiating.

The problem is the selection of officials that work these types of games, as well as the selection of major conference officials. I know guys (and gals) at lower collegiate levels who can referee circles around most of these guys who are consistently calling these big games and the major conference games. Unfortunately, they do not know the right person or have the right connection to get hired by the power conferences. It's just like any business and it always helps to know someone. I think it's a much bigger issue in basketball than it is in baseball and football. Until the NCAA demands a change, it's just going to continue to happen and we will continue to see guys like Doug Shows (although I think he has done much better this year) and Tony Greene working the major college games, Power conferences, Final Fours, and Title games year after year after year. The further east you get, the more this seems to be a problem.

Refs had very little to do with the outcome in this game. We had more fouls because of the aggressive defense.

We lost this game for two reasons. First and foremost, Kansas shot 47% versus 22% from three. Second we're razor thin on front line.

The refs simply didn't make the same calls on both ends of the floor tonight for both teams. A blind man could see that. For those denying that fact, or having trouble with the realization. I simply don't know what more to say.

They shot the second most free throw attempts in the entire HISTORY of Kentucky basketball against us tonight. It's a HISTORIC disparity as well.

Granted it wasn't quite as bad as Knoxville in 92 (59-33) or Vandy in Nashville in 93 (43-22) but it sure as hell brought back my old memories of those games.

Maybe some of you younger fans don't remember that or you could somehow explain away those games, too, since, apparently, you cannot see how a on the road hosing-down of the wildcats NEVER happens.

SMH.

I had no dog in the fight, but it became obvious to me that the refs were getting caught up in the moment. They bailed Kansas out so many times in the second half, it was pathetic. I guess it's part of playing on the road at Kansas. Refs get so cranked up with the crowd that they forget their objectivity.

Yeah, Kansas shooting nearly 20 free throws to UKs 0 the last 10 minutes of regulation didn't effect the game at all.

All I know is that KU, Duke, and even UofL fans are all laughing at how bad UK got hosed. Saying things like now they know how it feels, and that they wished UK was called for more fouls just to rub it in.

So, my question is; if UK truly wasn't hosed, then why are fans from those three fan bases, fan bases that would never give UK the benefit of the doubt, also saying that UK was hosed and even celebrating it?

Stop one 3 or make one 3 in regulation and it's over. Then we don't need any excuses.

I like what I saw. We can make some noise in the tourney.

Not here to whine... Just hoping if Kansas shoots 25 less free throws in their remaining away games... It's not that the refs were bad...it's just the fair way things go. So at Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor they will be cool spotting those teams 25 free throws and fouling out their 4 bigs? Sounds fair, right. And no whining or bitching...

The whistle may have been lopsided, for me it is hard to say objectively due to blue tinted glasses. However, it's not like we didn't have chances. Lee deserved every foul he got as did Skal. It did seem like KU got more leeway on the defensive end but we still could have won.

Dude shut the hell up. The free throw disparency was alarming to the point of ESPN picking it up. We were decently matched teams. No way it should have been that bad.

You get to be the good guy in the room. Congratulations.

All I'm saying is be consistent.

If your view is that difference in free throws mean one team is getting a favorable whistle, call in both ways.

Cause in the 6 years that Cal has been here we have DEFINITELY won the free throw battle the majority of the time.

And I think the fact that we arent so much this year speaks volumes to the team we currently have, not the refs.

Watch the damn game. They got away with murder. UK NEVER gets that kind of home cookin in Rupp.

Never. And you know it.

We lost this game because Kansas' bigs badly whipped our bigs on the boards. But our guards played well.

Murray's miscue as you labeled it didn't make Ulis turn the ball over. KU was going to pinch in on Ulis no matter what Murray did because it was the high percentage thing to do. Meaning, Ulis had a much greater chance of making that layup than Murray hitting the 3.

If you don't think the lopsided officiating didn't determine the outcome, you are either blind or a KU fan.
Isn't if funny how Ulis turns the ball over but it was Murray's fault. Sure he didn't move on the drive ... but either way ... Ulis made the turnover. In fact, if he had moved where Cal had informed him to he would have went further up on the wing, not to the corner.

Anyone could see? LOL! Honestly, I could not devine the motives of the referees, so thanks for explaining this. Do you suppose we might have done better if we hadn't gotten our butts whipped so badly on the boards?
