So, the state of North Carolina has a pretty talented '16 class...and it appears the mighty Tar Heels will get none of them. No Killeya-Jones- out of Chapel Hill of all places. No Harry Giles- the #1 recruit in the land. No Dennis Smith...who is tailormade for Roy's system. And no Bam who is exactly the kind of physical athletic post UNC lacks.

Anyone else laughing with me?

And no Giles, who grew up a UNC fan and is the best prospect from NC since Wall.

Ha- forgot to even mention the best player from the state since John Wall.

Also- no way they get Alkins who is playing his senior year in the Triangle.

This is what happens when you cheat and players' stock consistently drop while they're there (Barnes, McAdoo, etc.).

It's Final Four or bust for them this year. If they don't, I'm not sure if Roy ever gets them back to a FF unless he gets a team that just meshes and gets hot at the right time.

Rashaad McCants started all this with his interview in what was going on in Chapel Hell. The local press would have never looked into this and let it get this far.

It's title or bust, to be frank.

Yea, I think Heel Nation has literally put all their eggs into one basket and that basket is labeled "2016 NCAA Title." That would be salve for their scandal wounds as well as a big middle finger to the rest of us for bashing them over it. We'll see.....

I just can't see their defense improving enough. They don't have anything close to a Justise Winslow to anchor it. They can't stop the dribble. Their backcourt is small. They lost their best wing defender. And they don't protect the rim at all.

So much for Roy telling recruits that ".....nothing is going to happen to men's basketball.....". I guess the local vibe outside of UNCheat campus is based on hearing something different.

I would love to see them lose a lot of games this year and not make the NCAA tournament .

I hate it for some of their loyal fans who had nothing to do with what went on.

Ironically, UNC won by cheating. Those "loyal fans" were able to celebrate tainted titles over fans of teams who had played within the rules. UNC fans simply got what was coming to them. I feel bad for fans of teams that don't cheat to win and lose to the teams that do.

UNC has had better days, and it could be a long time before they have future glory days.

Saw where Roy was selling signed team basketballs today for $180......still being UNC like nothing will happen to their program.

Syracuse and their fans will have something to say at the end of all this.

UCONN had to sit out a year for APR issues. Never a problem for UNC***.

Dean Smyth has a stranglehold on that title.

Dean Smith certainly should have won more NCAA titles during his time at UNC, but he produced a lot of great teams and a lot of great players during his time. He kept them at the pinnacle of college basketball for 30+ years without ever producing the kind of mediocre seasons that have become the new normal under Roy.

Programs like UK and UNC (even without the cheating) are set up to dominate the sport and should never have prolonged periods of mediocrity, but, as we've seen, it's possible if the right coach is not in place. It will be interesting to see how UNC handles Williams if they don't succeed this year and then the downward spiral picks up steam beginning next year as it appears it will. Hard to force out a coach who won 2 titles for you early in his tenure (the first of those with another coach's recruits), but I think it would be in their best interest to breathe some fresh life into their program (perhaps after letting Roy ride out the probation storm a little bit). It's not unlike our situation with Tubby...good coach with early success, but now has the program just spinning its wheels.

Actually, not only did he completely underachieve the vast majority of his time at UNC, more likely than not most of his wins are illegitimate and should be vacated, further cementing him as more of a myth than actual collegiate legend.

It's very unlike UK's situation. UK had poor coaches, UNC is amidst the biggest cheating scandal in college athletics.

This shy girl(years ago, high school classmate of Dean Smith) is afraid to talk to boys due to her prosthetic eye. However, at a dance, she gets up the nerve to ask Dean for a dance. She approaches him and shyly asks, "would you like to dance with me?" Excitedly he responds, "would I, would I, " to which she angrily responds , "big nose, big nose."

I do believe UNC has met its watershed moment.

Nowhere left to go but down at this point. It becomes a mere matter of attrition at this point. They'll be really good this year, but with no recruits coming in back-to-back classes, they'll be the equivalent of the 2006-2009 Kentucky teams.

Yes, but that gradual descent to mediocrity was already well under way before the scandal hit. If the NCAA does what it should, they're headed for an era that will make the Doherty years seem like the golden years...or even worse, they'll become the next Indiana.

This story isn't true because we all know Dean's idea of dancing was to put all the boys in 2 corners of the room and all the girls in the other 2 corners of the room and then have everyone stare at each other...

Easy to be great when your players spend all of their time practicing basketball instead of having to study. Easy to be great when you can guarantee a degree and your players do not have to see a class room. Easy to be great when your players get free rental cars.
