Per, Adrian Wojnarowski .So, who takes the job? I have been hearing rumblings of Kevin Ollie being a strong candidate. Also, Billy D's name has been tossed around. Immense talent on that roster. Whoever gets it will fall into a nice spot.

Insert obligatory Rick Barnes has taken his name out of consideration comment here

Seriously that would be a nice job for someone, lots of talent on that team. They should be able to lure a top notch coach in there.

Don't follow the NBA, but Wilbon said his players love him and their injuries was the main reason they didn't make the playoffs. He said there was no reason to fire him.

I agree, dumb move. He had very little KD most of the year, they should be a lot better next year if they have KD, Westbrook, and Kanter comes along. Billy D's name is on high alert now.

Insert ridiculous "Cal to the thunder" rumor here.

OKC was ravaged by injuries this year.. Surprised they didn't give him at least one more season to make a deep playoff run with a healthy Durant and Westbrook..

Billy Donovan would be a great hire and it could help resign Durant long term if he's successful next season.

They can keep Kanter by using their Bird's rights plus they will have a lottery pick or even a high lottery pick depending on how the ping pong balls come out. If they are at 14, I heard they really like Booker. Ideally, they would love to move up and have a shot at Winslow.

Kanter is a restricted free agent this summer, not sure OKC will be able to match what some teams will offer him. He would probably be better off staying in OKC if he wants to win though.

This had almost nothing to do with this past season, and Woj just reiterated that on twitter. It was a long time coming. People who look beyond what's put right in front of them (AKA people not named Mike Wilbon) had been all over Brooks for years about how he used some of those guys and how his actual end of game coaching was hysterical at times. The amount of minutes in the past that he played the decaying corpses of Kendrick Perkins and Derek Fisher in MAJOR playoff moments was insane.

Hahahaha, wouldn't it be hysterical if they won the lottery? Howd'ya like to see Karl-Anthony Towns on the same team with Kanter, Durant, and Westbrook?? A blind monkey could coach that team to the playoffs.

Yep. This has been a long time coming. His management of lineups has been awful.

It happened with the Orlando Magic when they had Shaq and drafted Chris Webber before trading him for Penny Hardaway.

Guess this is also part of their long term plan to keep Durant. Look for a coach he likes.

They can match any offer and go over the cap because they have his Bird's rights.

I thought the firing should have come after last season. Yeah the injuries killed them this year and it makes hte timing look bad, but over the past few years it's obvious he isn't the coach to lead them to a championship. That team has at times just looked so bad in crunch time in big pressure playoff situations, and Brooks' play calling and substitution patterns have been inexplicably bad in those situations as well. And his inability to reign in Westbrook's sometimes ridiculous shot jacking doesn't help either.

Thibs from the Bulls doesn't get along with management and Bill Simmons thinks he will leave after the season. That would be a coup for OKC.

.

That's not what's going on here. OKC kept Brooks for 8 years and through many player injuries.

As other have mentioned, this has been a long time coming. Brooks is widely known as mental lightweight, Xs and Os wise, and his mismanagement of lineups and situations has been downright comical the last couple playoff runs. He nearly got fired after prior seasons, and even before the season began it was widely believed that this was likely to be his last season unless they did something spectacular.

And, to answer your question: LOTS of big name coaches "would want that job now". Chance to coach prime Westbrook, Durant, Ibaka, etc.--are you kidding?

all true points...wonder if they could have hired an offensive minded assistant---to keep stability. Brooks is a defensive minded coach.

Brooks was not a very good coach. The evidence stretches back past this last year, and he could still be a sub-par coach with any amount of injuries. Coaching =/= W/L record.

Thank you. Some people are unable to separate coaches from W/L records. Brooks seems to be a pretty good defensive coach, but man that offense was hard to watch. Make sure Perkins gets his 2 touches at the beginning of each half!

I don't care who they get so long as they stay away from Coach Cal. What a dream job though. As others have said, KD, Westbrook, Kanter, etc;. What a great situation to inherit.

They have to have a good idea as to whom the next coach will be or they wouldn't have done this.

From everything that's out there it appears they're going after Billy D, Ollie and then Thibs if they strike out on those two.

Might be one of the first job hunts we see candidates racing to accept. If Donovan wants to leave Florida and Ollie wants to coach KD, this is the best opportunity for both of them. Who jumps first? Who's offered first?

Should be fun to watch. Bet it unfolds in a hurry.

I'd run across broken glass to get this job if I were a coach. How often does a job featuring two of the top 5-6 NBA players open up?
