Just throwing that out there. I for one don't drink beer and really don't care but if putting more alcohol into beer will make some of these *** holes around Mississippi stop being *** holes I am all for it.

Sarcasm- if you'll scroll down to the Mike Allen thread I basically regurgitated his argument. It was supposed to be a joke.

I'm all for raising the 6% to the 13% level, hopefully it will happen soon.

And I'm an ******* for other reasons regardless.

many "foreign" and even domestic beers have a higher alcohol content than the MS limit. No limit would allow you to buy any and all of the worlds "finest" beers and have an umlimited choice. Folks that drink this type of beer aint buying a case of it to take to a crawfish boil and get shitfaced. They/We will still do that with the typical millers, buds, keystones, coors, beasts, nattys etc...

therefore it limits your choice of beer by taste, which is how you think we should decide what to drink. It's the great tasting microbrews that this keeps out. This has nothing to do with simply getting more alcohol, as these are typically more expensive anyway, so you get less alcohol per dollar.

Plus, is there any reason not to allow more?

Exactly, if you're drinking to get wasted, you're more than likely going to drink cheap beer with lower alcohol content. If you're drinking the higher alcohol beers, it's probably because you actually enjoy a beer for being a beer, which means you usually aren't doing it to get canned.

For me personally, when I want to drink slowly and enjoy a beer with dinner or just enjoy a beer or two with friends, I typically get a dark European beer, typically with a higher alcohol content. If I'm out looking to get canned, I get the cheaper beer with the lower alcohol content and pound them. I'm sure a lot of people are that way.

taste and how they are crafted make a big differnce due to ABV. Of the beers that I like most are about 9%, All the trappist ales from Belgium, and the west coast stuff 8% to 11% ABV and it makes a huge taste difference.

but many Breweries won't expand into an area if they cannot do it with their full line.

And as people have said- people don't drink these to get wasted- that's what beers with "drinkability" (probably to WORST marketing campaign ever) are for. Nobody's going to be funneling a $9 bottle of Chimay.

Because of Alabama's 16 oz. container restriction.

Hopefully we'll tackle that next. But, today's victory opened the door to a lot of beers.

Big D, as everyone else has stated, this wasn't an attempt to get Bud Light in a higher ABV. It now allows us to enjoy beers that have greater and different flavors.

The average drunk and teenager/college student will not be affected by this bill.

Several breweries have a lineup that goes from <4% to as much as 12% (very few beers are above the new upper limit). Problem is that most do not want to sell only a small part of their lineup.

Actually, I've only ever had their beer out of small bottles.

I'm more concerned about beers from Stone. Arrogant Bastard only comes in a bomber, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand that it was a joke and my post was also joking around. I also can be a *** hole as well but in a kind gentler way.

How COULD he? Doesn't he understand that by raising the allowable alcohol content in beers he's going to force underage Mississippians to drive to Alabama to get the higher content beer? And what do you think these kids are gonna do with that ice cold beer when they get in the car? By god they're gonna drink it so it doesn't get warm on the drive back across state lines! This is wreckless governing!

I have some 12 oz. Oaked Arrogant Bastard in my refrigerator. I've never seen Arrogant Bastard in anything but 22 oz. bottles, though.

You can't get Yuengling because Yuengling has strict control over their distribution chain. They have a policy of SLOWWWWWWWWW expansion. They actually don't want to get too big. However, they did expand their facilities to Florida a while ago and that opened up a lot of markets in the south. However, MS is still not one of their locations. I do understand that there is a big push on them to come here soon.

If the state wants to draw a line between hard liquor and softer liquor, I get that. But to completely blacklist one kind of alcoholic drink with its alcohol content not being an issue - is ridiculous.

...the Downtown Pub has Yuengling on tap for $1.75 all day, everyday. Great place to go grab a beer with friends. Theres never any annoying *** crappy bands playing, just the jukebox.</p>

Is our quality of life really suffering because of this? I agree that it is obviously a ridiculous law, but we recessions, global warming, and the BCS to tackle first.

Are you suggesting that our highly esteemed, elected officials couldnt find their *** with both hands and a map?

Get real for a second. Do you know how many easy fix problems there are out there? If "our" government started trying to solve the quick fixes it would take centuries to chew through that list. Its best that they are left alone.

Not sure, but I think they would have to distribute the beer and of course would tax it. Would the beer distributors want to deal with the ABC?</p>

As it's been said here, there is just no valid argument against raising the limit. Any time you can go into a liquor store and buy Everclear which is damn near 100% alcohol and you can't buy beer above 6%, something is badly wrong.
