I assume a large portion of this board lives in Mississippi or the surrounding states when I ask this question…if you had to move to a different state tomorrow, which would you choose? I think I’m going with Colorado

Aside from all the blue state immigrants, and soaring property prices Tennessee is home for the forseeable future.
I think the heat would get me in FL & AZ.

Bama - north or Baldwin Co. from what I’ve seen and compared to most of MS. Depends on what you’re seeking + stage in life. Traveling to CO for bus. over the past 8 years, growth has been incredible similar to TX and Nashville from folks seeking refuge from CA and folks moving south.
I guess Alabama. I like it on the panhandle so I’ll move on over to Perdido Key
I have never been happy in life until I moved to Pensacola. Even the ladies that cook at Waffle House are hawt.

Spouse really likes it. Also, proximity to her major clients plus friends in area. One of her clients flew her in last week and whipe there she toured homes in GCC and Montebello (sp?). Any input on those or other neighborhoods is appreciated.
That being said, I think Raleigh would be first of the two due to larger size.
My list was related to us specifically not a top places to live in general.
As an aside, Lexington KY also makes our list.

The Carolinas are top two in my book.
I have several friends and kin living in the Triangle so I visit it fairly often.
May I be so bold as to say you don’t appreciate it enough?
Greenville, SC — simply put — blows away all of the cities in Mississippi.
I’ve spent a little time there. Greenville attracts businesses, has a nice downtown, and gets substantial attention and investment from Clemson.
In addition, I have friends whose children attend or are considering Furman. They like Greenville too.
If this question was asked on the message board of any school in the other 49 states, how many responses indicate a desire to live in Mississippi?

I completely agree that no where in MS compares, but I also haven't lived in MS since 2006. I have lived in the Asheville area, Lexington, KY, up and down east TN, and St. Paul in that time frame. Nearly all of those moves were for work.
I'm not saying I don't like it. It's a fine place. It has plenty of opportunities for jobs. Active, clean, and desirable downtown. I've spent a lot of time in the Upstate throughout my life. Greenville often feels like it's missing something.
Some Cons: I'm not even entirely sure what. If I had to put my finger on it, there's been significant growth in all of the Upstate especially in Greenville and Spartanburg counties, but very little investment to increase and improve infrastructure. One of our best family friends is a former Sous - Chef in Charleston, Asheville, and Los Angeles. His wife is from Spartanburg, so when they had kids they came home to the area. He will tell you the restaurant scene is terrible in the area. I wouldn't go that far, but compared to other places I've lived I would agree that it's not as good. It's also very suburban sprawly basically from the second you get out of downtown.
Pros: Live music scene is good for a midsize city that is sandwiched between Asheville, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Charleston. It's been a great place for my kids. They go to a private school here, and I can't rave about it enough. The opportunities(educational, athletic, and nearly any other interest they could have) for them here are wonderful. We live in an older historical neighborhood which has been fantastic. Because I mentioned our friend's view on the restaurant scene in the CONS. I will also say there are a ton of great hole in the wall, divey restaurants especially outside of downtown. You just have to look for them and seek them out. I had some of the best cuban food of my life earlier this week, and we regularly get pizza for a mom and pop place that makes you think you are in NYC.
But, I do feel like the city is just missing something I can't quite put my finger on it. It could simply be that it's growing so fast, and it's just growing pains.
Sorry for the ramble-y post, your question just got me thinking.
I moved from Brandon to Jacksonville Fl. for work almost 10 years ago now, and will say that while Jax gets a bad rap most of the time, its been a good place to live. It doesnt have the urban core that most "big" cities have, but it does offer all the amenities of a city without the tourism/crowd aspect. And then there are the beaches her. Aside from that, if I had my pick it would either be Western NC or Western VA. Love the terrain of both areas with endless outdoor activities to enjoy.
We looked very closely at both GCC and Montebello. Especially Montebello. We put an offer on a house in Montebello, but got out bid. My wife is from Lexington, and we lived there previously. I'm happy to try to answer questions you may have about either GSP or Lexington.
Edit to Add: We lived in the Chevy Chase neighborhood in Lexington, and we bought in a comparable neighborhood in Greenville.

2. Has all 4 seasons and shot at a white Christmas.
3. Mountains
4. Place that doesn't routinely get Satan's nutsack hot or extremely cold. I don't like 100 and humid or windchills of -20.
So places like West Virginia or somewhere along the Appalachians would get a hard look.

Alabama coast or Florida panhandle. Got to have ocean very close. I've never been to Jacksonville but have been to several places south of there on the Atlantic side and never met a Southerner. Hilton Head, same way. Pensacola gets my vote.
Since he's the one that did the "No Show" for Bulldog Bash I guess we don't have to worry about him wanting to move here?
