Just curious to know if there is anything interesting that stands out to you when it comes to the brackets? Any weird matchups or seedings? What about surprise playoff teams?

Two surprises for me are 4A Washington, which started 0-5, finished 3-7, and gets to host a playoff game, and 4A Nash Central, which started 0-6 and ended up winning their conference with an 4-6 overall record and is also hosting a game.

I think I have to finally admit that Reidsville is geographically in the eastern half of the state, but TW Andrews is slightly in the west, but constantly makes it to the eastern bracket.

Speaking of being on the wrong side, poor 1A East Columbus, a little over 40 miles from the beach, can't seem to stay out of the western bracket, while two teams from the same city of Wilson find themselves on opposite sides of the bracket: Sallie Howard is in the east, while defending eastern and state champ Wilson Prep is in the west. It's possible that both these Wilson schools will end up playing one another for the state championship. What a laugh that would be.
Interesting but Howard wont get anywhere near the championship game. Nash Central had a strong finish. I think they are a program on the rise. They should have beaten S Nash and Louisburg too and finished 6-4. That might have helped Warren County out a little. Lol. We scheduled up and still got punished in the RPI.

My thoughts are that the RPI system is better than the previous system we had but it could be better. I believe that games against higher classifications should be weighted. A bad large school is still probably better than the average small school. I'm not sure what the incentive is to schedule up in classifcation if you get punished for losing and no extra credit for winning. And game control and margin of victory should be factored in somehow. I believe Warren County deserved a 2 seed. But it is what it is. Just gotta prove it on the field now.

Idk about that I'd say Mitchell is slightly better than Cherokee but I do agree Robbinsville would probably win that game if played today they probably should have won the first time.
Mitchell and Cherokee are very similar, I’d give a slight edge to Cherokee with their skill kids. We were really banged up at Mitchell but I agree, still could’ve won.

Just curious. Edenton Holmes played up as well in each of its non-conference games and its only loss was a 1 point loss to Northeastern who is the number one seed in the East in 3A. Are you saying they didn’t deserve the 2 seed?

Playing up shouldn't be weighted for two reasons: Having a larger student body doesn't mean you have a better football team. And the other and more important reason is because if it was weighted, it wouldn't work. How? It'll only benefit the smaller schools. If a 2A school tried to schedule a 5A school, it'll only benefit the 2A school. No larger school would agree to schedule a smaller school. Margin of victory shouldn't matter either. The goal is to win the game. You only need to win by 1. They'll still give you the trophy if you win by one point. Besides, the institution of running clocks makes it impossible.

If you reward the smaller scholsl, do you penalize the biggest schools?

The eastern playoffs won’t start until Thanksgiving when Warren and Edenton play.

I don’t think there’s a team in the east that could stay within 28points of Tarboro, Holmes, and Warren. However I think the big 3 are all capable of winning the east and the state championship.

If you are a good team in the 2A East it really doesn't matter your seed as long as you are not the #4 seed which would in most year end up playing Tarboro. #2 and #3 seeds are going to play the only real difference is home field.

Mitchell qb didn't play whole 4 quarter, we had linemen out that game lol.

I will say that Nash Central had one of the toughest non conference schedules in the state, followed by one of the easiest conference schedules in the state. What is a 4A/3A/2A conference anyway lol. What does it prove when a 4A school wins it? Do the 2A schools even have a chance? It's weird lol. I'm not sure running through that means anything about Nash Central, other than they were one of the bigger schools.

Well the 2A schools in the MVAC fared pretty well. The 2 4A teams finished 4th and 7th.

There really isn't that much size difference in 2A and 4A.

Understood. I really only had Nash Central's conference as a reference. It's not impressive.

Edenton had an excellent regular season. Im not taking anything away from them. I just feel like ours was slightly better. Edenton played one good team, Pasquotank and destroyed them. Impressive. They played one excellent team and lost in a very tight game. No shame in that. We played one 6A, two 5A and two 4A schools in the nonconference. None of those teams are great but we dominated them all. We outscored our opponents 444-12 with 9 consecutive shutouts, something that hasnt been done since 1971. Its not so much what Edenton hasnt done so much as what we have done. Simmons has had us ranked over Edenton all season although his final regular season ranking hasnt come out. So it not just my opinion. But like I said there isnt much separation among the top 3 seeds in the East. Honestly all three could make a case for #1.

Its funny you say that about these conferences with teams in different classifications. Mostly it has worked out but with Northern Nash it seems kind of unfair. The smaller schools in that conference all seem to be playing for second place every year. With 8 classifications though Im not thinking anything can be done about things like that.

I see your point about larger schools not wanting to schedule smaller ones but you could make it a factor without making it a huge factor. You still have many other factors to balance it out. I think the impact on scheduling would be minimal. Proximity and gate drive scheduling more than RPI. Vance will never stop playing us because its the biggest gate for both teams other than maybe homecoming. And I disagree with you about margin of victory. If two teams play a similar schedule and one team wins all its games by 30 and the other wins them all by 1 you dont think thats significant? But like I said before, the current system is better than the previous. I just hope they keep tweaking it to get it right.

it's unfortunate, but if you are successful long enough, there are going to be times when you have to hit the road, when you should probably be at home. In 2010 we were undefeated and had to go to a one loss East Duplin team. Wishing all teams the best going forward.

Youre right. If youre the better team you just have to do what's necessary to win. I might be more upseet that I have to travel that far. Lmao.

Look, I have much respect for the Mitchell program. But you have no idea what we were missing that night. You had your horses for the majority. Our offense is so much better as Allison has progressed rather nicely at QB. Gibby accounted for over 300 yds and 4 TDs Friday. Lambert is a burner that would have put up great numbers had he not got hurt. And 2 starting linemen on both sides of the ball. Our defense is now the catalyst of the team as the starters gave up only 19 pts in conference play. Only my opinion, dreaming? Nah. Good luck in the playoffs.

Honestly your offense is terrible. Mitchell had 3 starters out all i know you guys went for 2 and lost. Our mistakes inside the 10 cost us 14 points . Good luck rest of year , hope you can win state

Our offense was missing 3 key pieces and Allison was in his second game as a QB. You struggled to move the ball against what we had and that’s a far cry from what our defense is now. So it’s not unrealistic! And yes our offense was terrible, but they’re healthier and Allison is more than likely an All SMC QB.

I think Lakewood at a 4 seed sticks out like a sore thumb. The Leopards are wishy washy...... in games against Lejeune, East Columbus and Union they struggled in the first half against bad opponents they seem to play down to the level of the teams they face which can get you got in the playoffs! Not as much room for error and letting a team get momentum this time of the year can be a bad recipe. They have the athletes to blow teams out of the water but you never know what Lakewood you're gonna get. That Leopard offense looks clueless and tends to sputter pretty often. I don't think they make it past the 3rd round and shoot don't be surprised if they let out a big ole fart and lose round 2.

Warren county is overrated as heck by the way. You know how crappy of a schedule you have to play to go 10-0 and be a 3 seed in the playoffs? Embarassing. Their opponents have a 35% WIN PERCENTAGE!!!!!!! Been seeing the fans complain about the seeding WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT???? I think this will cause them problems because warren has not been challenged ONCE in the year of 2026. What happens when they get hit in the mouth? Look out for an early exit for the cupcake eaters.

My question is who is a better suited 4 seed? If you want to get to the numbers and statistics side of things, Lakewoods opponent win percentage is the best of the top 5 seeds, I know that is not the closing point as a team Like Tarboro has played up in classification pretty much all year, but I feel like it has to hold some weight. Their opponents win percentage is the only of the top 5 seeds that is above .500. Surely they have had some bumps throughout the year but Losses coming from top 3 seeds in 3A and 4A, and another top 10 seed in 4A, in games that were all close throughout, add on to undefeated in a conference many had them projected to finish 3rd or 4th in, they have potential.

Shoot in all honesty Lakewood more of a 3 seed then wArReN cOuNtY. I been seeing this "Big 3" talk involving Warren, Holmes and Tarboro. THERE IS A BIG 2 THOUGH! Tarboro and Holmes are the 2 best and after that the drop off is tremendous. The rest of the field will canabalize itself to fight for the butt whoopings waiting at the hands of holmes and tarboro.

Warren County schedule is a concern but at the same time, you have to be doing things right the have the shutouts they've had. At this level of high school ball its not uncommon to see team "mess up & score." So to have that amount of shutouts they must be disciplined, I haven't been able to find any games of theirs online but I'm sure they have athletes, they normally do. We shall see how they fair when they get into a tight game or have to play from behind, having a season like they've had its easy to get shook this time of the year, especially if players and coaches are put in situations they havent been in yet.

Just because you play a weak schedule doesn’t always mean a team isn’t good.

It would be different if Warren were 10-0 and barely squeaking by these teams, but They are doing what any good team would do to them and dominating them.

I wouldn’t discredit them too much because of their schedule. They can’t help what conference they are in.

Agreed, easy for high school kids who have been dominant all year to panic and point the finger when things do not go right, also coaches have to be able to manage the players in those situations as well as operate differently themselves, play calling, clock management, substitutions, etc. are all things their staff probably hasn't had to put much effort into this season. The best preparation is going through the fire itself.

That is true, like I mentioned in an earlier reply, teams can "F Up and score" being able to consistently put up points and pitch shutouts is impressive no matter the comp. Like you said, they cannot help the conference they are in, that comes down to the state flopping with the 8 Classifications and realignment.

I've got to get up here and defend Warren County a little bit. I know their schedule is really bad, but they handled business and didn't have any head scratchers. I'm sure the defense isn't an all-time great based on the schedule they've played, but again, good for them for handling business. I agree, I'm interested in seeing how they do once they get punched in the mouth, and how they respond, because they clearly have not been pushed all year.
