I understand what you are saying but it is not exactly rare for todays coaches to start from scratch. Two years in and Pope had an empty cupboard, his own cupboard, to replace this season. While we did have injuries, almost every team has injuries. I will admit that last year was the first time I have seen a coach heavily recruit a guy hobbled by a severe injury then, get to use that injury as an excuse for the whole season.

I think the "plan" is probably Hampton, Millogo... Stay in the hunt for Rosser (doubtful unless we overspend and promise to build the team around him), and if you lose Rosser, they will use that offer for Benji, Kamagate, or both in the spring as reclasses. If we do land Millogo, his agent and Yann K's are the same and both have the Aboyo connection. It's a long way from a done deal though. Pope needs to hit a homerun with this class, not necessarily a world series grand slam, but a solo shot to get on the board and show some power. He's been swinging for the fences and either striking out or flying out to straightaway left a lot. Millogo shooting up the rankings probably made his price tag go up. Hope UK can lock him down before he takes a turn opens back up his recruiting.
Those diva high 5*s seem like such PIA's in the NIL era. You end up blowing 1/4 of your NIL on em and they come with demands. If it's Flagg or Boozer I get it, no one here that good.
Ament waiting till spring last year, he sucked and now he sucks in the NBA. I get it if you can lock em up early, but who wants to wait to the spring to land these guys?
The reality is that you should throw all of em in a pool with the portal guys at the same time so you can shop for what you need collectively.
If ncaa legislation is passed, limiting transfers, we will HAVE TO compete in high school recruiting again. Our portal success could be a path that is completely closed off as an option for building a team if congress passes an ncaa bill now or in the future. What then?

If he could nab Rosser and Millogo to go with Hampton that would be by far his best effort since he’s been here and something to look forward too with portal adds and retention.
I think Mason Williams has turned into a pretty great recruit. I think you'd rather have a top 100 guy like him rather than a top 20 guy like Jasper Johnson. You can't rely on this strategy, as Tubby Smith proved, but it's not something to dismiss either.
I can be wrong, as my memory isn't what it used to be, but I think Hawkins and Fitch weren't in the top rankings back then. Bogans was. I'd love to have a Hawkins and Fitch again.

Could also mean the staff feels good about their position with someone and wouldn't have the combination of NIL, promised playing time, focused around that player, assets to throw at Diggs or AJ.
I'm with you, I suspect its 1) Try and land Rosser - with a generous and mildly flexible NIL Cap. If you lose out on that or it gets too expensive pivot to 2) Trying to get Benji to reclass and sign a 2 year deal (Modest year 1 NIL package with a serious NIL bump for year 2 since he would have to play 2 years before he's draft eligible if he re-classes). Then if that doesn't work pivot to 3) Get Yann to reclass (despite his camp insisting he isn't going to, but if the money is right and the connections to Cherif and Aboyo work, maybe this one can happen.)
It's pretty difficult based on the current roster. I doubt everyone that can come back does, but you never know. And you have to budget for Moreno and/or Milan wanting to run it back. Only Big Frank will be out of eligibility, 13 other roster spots for 13 players that can return, plus 2 spots taken now by Hampton and Millogo. Taking another recruit forces someone out from returning, but obviously to be successful you have to recruit over people. But we haven't really seen Pope "force" people out with incoming Freshmen before. Not sure how he would navigate that honestly.
Last nights election pretty much guarantees that will not happen unless lame duck congress passes it. Congressional Black Caucus opposes the bill and their is no way new Speaker Jefferies bucks them over this.

UNC has backed off Nasir Anderson, and is now focused on Jalen Davis or 2028 potential reclass Brady Pettigrew to fill a guard spot. Pettigrew just visited, and Davis has scheduled his 2nd visit in the past 6 weeks.
Matija Lukic is a wildcard Serbian player that is visiting UNC amongst 7 total schools in 8 days. Don't know how he fits into this at all.
If true Henry went for 5mm, you'd have to think Rosser's expectations are no less. UNC ready to pony up 10mm for two freshmen? Would seem nuts to have a freshman 3 & 4 OAD for 10mm.

I have no idea what UNC is willing to spend on Rosser. Like I told you when Henry signed, UNC is all in on Rosser and isn't giving up unless they run out of money.
I'm bullish on Jalen Davis because he's from Marvin Williams little town and high school, and bc of his surprise 2nd visit. But maybe he just wants to see if UNC will up their offer after his Gonzaga visit.
I know a lot of teams are after Pettigrew. I was just surprised by the number of Tar Heel fans in his family that accompanied him on his recent visit.
As I've said before, there are no surefire stars in this recruiting class. So I'm not getting too high or low on class of 2027 recruitments. It feels like the transfer portal will be more important next spring, especially with all the 5th year players who will undoubtedly be in it.
