Between our well, generators, fuel, RV, EMP-proof antique truck, 18-month food supply, life straw filters, ample acreage and game along with the necessary hole punching equipment and consumables, we're prepared for pretty much anything short of a direct hit or a nuclear winter. But the only people that know that and my name / address already sleep in my home.

My parents have a Generac whole home generator. It is loud as hell. Would probably attract unwanted attention. Water will be my ultimate downfall if it lasts more than a week.

Prepare for what? Natural or man-made disaster. Hurricane/tornado or Red Dawn? Went through the mess of Camille in 69, no utilities, no water and not much of anything for over 2 weeks. If it's nuclear detonation it won't matter, if it's commies on the ground it might get dicey until the ammo runs out.

The first that find me won't ever be found. If things get apocalyptic and that no longer matters, maybe the feeding buzzards will be enough of a deterrent.
How many you will you have with you? You will need a lot. You won’t be facing lone raiders.

That's why you prop the dead up and leave one alive. So they can go back and inform the rest that they know of one place that's a no go.
That would just tell them where TO go in this situation. They will already be dying, you would just offer them a quicker way out, or if they win, a few more days.

For short term outages from something like an ice storm, anything less than a month is no problem with what I have on-hand.

Long term would be more difficult but doable.
1. My hobby is pretending it is pre-1865. - Check
2. I live on 60 wooded acres with deer, turkey and 2 stocked ponds. - Check
3. I have lots and lots of precious metals to barter with. (if lead and brass are considered precious metals) - Check

I'd be good for a while.

A few people have touched on this but you can’t survive a total grid meltdown by yourself. As rural as Ms is it’s not rural enough to isolate yourself from the violence that is coming. Even if you have a thousand acres you, your spouse, and kids can’t defend it. You need to be part of a group that is small enough to be self sufficient but large enough to realistically defend what you have. I don’t care how much food you have or how many guns you have, at some time you have to sleep. A human being doesn’t have eyes in the back of their head. You’re gonna need help.

I have a camper that I will haul as far as the gas I have will allow me. We will have to find a commune near natural resources for food and water. Bartering won't be an option early on. Will need pew pews to make sure everyone comes to mutual agreements.

I have a RV as well and while it’s a great safety net, in a total meltdown armed gangs will take control of even small towns. Get out a map and see how far you can drive without going through a town. Assuming that it’s just you and the immediate family, what are your plans for roadblocks? It’s sad to say but those who are still alive one year post apocalypse will be 1. Prepared. Guns, ammo, and food. 2. Smart. Able to survive without electricity and the grocery store. 3. Lucky enough to avoid random violence. 4. Ruthless enough to make “me or you” decisions when necessary. I figure that at a year the population will be depleted to a point that it’s manageable and small social groups will form their own government and society. Some semblance of normality will emerge.

Yea. I think it was in middle or high school our history teacher asked the class where they would want to be if there was a nuclear war. People were saying "rural Alaska", "Canada", "South America", "Australia", etc. My answer was "right under the first one". People looked at me like I just pulled a gun out in class or something. But the teacher said, "unfortunately that's probably the best answer".

Worldwide, there has been a lot of chatter about emergency preparedness. I usually never give such things much thought, but with a family of 6, this gives me pause. Do you do anything and if so, what?
With a family of six you either have daddy money or make six figures so I wouldn’t worry about it

That depends on your skillset. Although they didn't have the comforts we now have and things were less convenient, people lived a long time before gasoline and diesel fuel. Most of the people I know couldn't make it. But I believe I know several that could, including myself.

A couple of good mules and a shitton of ammo is all you need!

I’m not prepared and not sure how I would be prepared. I’m not going to start buying and stocking up emergency food supplies in my attic.

I’m also not that concerned with it ever happening. Half the **** on the news these days is just there to scare you

My tinfoil hat side thinks shutting down the grid will be a last ditch effort to stop a malevolent AI. Getting the public prepared in case it’s necessary is to prevent too much chaos due to the grid being shut down.

I've had several people ask my opinion on all this "chatter."
I'm prepped and comfortable I can sustain for a while. It's good to be prepared, but this "chatter" going on now is nothing but more social media hysteria, and a lot of it stems from the military testing their system redundancy for 90 days. Why wouldn't the military test their systems. Since the beginning of time people have tried to predict catastrophic events from the end of the world to natural disasters. Since social media came out it has hit overdrive. I remember when Camp Shelby was being used as a staging and training area for units deploying to Afghanistan because it's so big and has a few hundred empty barracks that can easily accommodate many units. I think it was Fort Hood that shipped their M1 tanks there by train and people were seeing these trains loaded with tanks and FREAKING OUT thinking the military was up to something and about to establish Martial Law. The hysteria over toilet paper when Covid was a big deal is another example. Back to this current hysteria, if something like this were to happen, we're not gonna know about it. How do the people reporting this know about it?

But, regardless I have provisions like MREs and water filtration kits, guns, LOTS of ammo, some cash stashed in secure places, lots of survival supplies like solar panels, heater/stove kits, etc. Again it's good to be prepared, but I figure this is just MORE social media hysteria.

ETA: Also, when nuclear energy was being developed, Russia was spreading lots of propaganda making people in the US fear it. It's been proven it was Russia while they were aggressively developing nuclear power. There were people in the US quite literally thinking that living near a nuclear power plant would make them have deformed kids and stuff like that. This hysteria over AI taking over or "shutting down the grid" isn't any different.

If Dan Bongino is saying we need to be prepared, you better getyoass prepared.

That guy knows.

I like Bongino but how would he even know? How would anyone know? If something catastrophic is about to happen, nobody will know. People melt down on social media over anything.
