If he holds that percentage after 200 games, and stays at Kentucky, it'll really mean something important for this program.

There was another Kentucky coach who was 7-0 after his first seven games. including a win over Duke. I'm not great at math, but I think that's 100 percent. THat proved hard to maintain, but hey, a new season is ahead of us.

No coach is winning 88% of games long term.

And Stein didnt play 6 out of 7 dog crap cupcakes n first 7 games either. 🙄

At Kentucky.

In football.

Let that sink in the next time meaningful winning percentages comes up regarding what is possible.

Such as maybe this winter in another sport.
Our winning % in football will be strong as long as Stein is here but its not staying where it is fella

Well obviously Stein had it easy. Anyone can rock the SEC football world. It’s not like he was asked to take on a real challenge—playing winning basketball at Kentucky or something crazy like that.

That's not our standard and you know it.
So Pope had one up to standards S16 season and another that was a sub standard 2nd round loss and that's automatically fireable? What if Stein finished this season 9-4 and then goes 4-8 next year. You firing him too? Cause we will revisit this

We have a higher standard in basketball than FB and saying otherwise is disingenuous at best. That's not a valid comparison.

Im enjoying the 7-1 season. Enjoying the 88% winning percentage. Enjoying the high.

But the only thing in the back of my mind is the drop off will come. Its almost impossible to keep this up in the SEC. I dont expect a win next game but im hoping for one.

As long as Stein has us winning at a decent rate I'll be happy. Has us more than a respected program that will be amazing. Be a program that competes every game. Thats all I ask for.

I won't jump off the Stein train if we lose two or three games to end the season. Hes already over achieved.

We have a hard four games coming up.

Only way I'll get bummed is if we just curb stomped.

Like, if we get blown out at UT it wouln't be the end of the world but it will be a damper for sure.

If you go 3-1 that's phenomenal.

Go 2-2 and it's ok,

what you can't do is lose out or go 1-3 or 0-4 and get manhandled in your losses. That would just suck out all the momentum and fun from a really good season. Would still be successful over all but we'd be lying to say we'd feel great about it.

Nor should anyone. Steins playcalling and confidence are what has this team 7-1 instead of 3-5. But we aren't dogwalking anyone, we are pulling out tight games. Give Stein a couple more recruiting classes and that might change.

The reason we have a higher standard in SEC play in basketball is because historically no one besides us in conference .had taken basketball seriously. Of course the standard is higher.
Not just SEC play. Overall. We have EIGHT title for goodness sakes. That goes beyond SEC play. Our standard would be higher no matter what conference we dribbled in.

We have 1 title in FB.

And 4 of those most people posting on here arent old enough to recall. Or weren't even alive for. We need to pick up the pace in the modern era.

EIGHT Championships in ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR SEASONS.
See, I can go all caps too. If my math is right, we average a Championship every 15-16 seasons. We haven't won one since 2011-2012. Pope has been here two. So again, what's your point?

Pope has also made us the laughing stock of cbb while pulling in lackluster talent and people STILL clamor for him

When you have 16 games involving matchups with teams coached by assistant football personnel, surely you better know the formula and capitalize on it. Rupp knew it and seized the opportunity. In 1962, Tennessee hired Ray Mears out of Wittenberg. I'd say they were the second SEC team to take basketball seriously. Mears ended up going an unthinkable 12-12 head to head with Rupp.

8 titles is impressive (even if half of those were before 1959), but I'll never marvel at SEC play for reasons already stated.

Treating him fairly us not clamoring for him, and saying we are the laughingstock of CBB is nonsensical
You clearly don’t look on Twitter/Facebook/Reddit if you think people aren’t making fun of Pope and his behavior and his coaching and recruiting. Because they do.

You're right, I dont use twitter/FB or reddit to form my own opinion. I'm not 12 years old. Why would I care what a bunch of folks who hate UK say about UK?
Its like being on Rafters. I love talking about the Cats, I don't mind disagreement, but I dont swing to a nonsense, pile on position on Pope because several others do, because I know that many of those who scream the loudest are either Kansas or U6 fans or deranged UK fans with 12 different user names to make it look like folks agree with them

I personally wish people would lay off Pope and see what he does with a healthy roster.

Manchild with large font craves attention and does his best to stir up a message board in an effort to have everyone here follow him into some sort of make-believe battle against a basketball coach when the only results that matter is wins and losses and what happens in March.

Guy thinks he's William Wallace or something lol.
